i would love to here BF5 play the theme song to the Peanuts cartoons. It
just sounds like a natural selection. it could be a nice intro to another
song. i'm sure it would be a live classic.

Ok, I cant believe that im taking the time to respond to this article,
but just for all you people out there wondering....Ben Folds is not Gay,
and is, in fact married and has been for a while to a woman named
Kate....I think that it has been a few years now....dont subscribe to
rumors, most of them are not true, especially about
stars.....anyway...thats my two cents...

Just to let everyone know and to set the record straight, the recent posts
about Ben Folds being gay and the band's use of crack are a complete hoax.
I have a couple of friends who hate BF5's music more than anything and
they thought it would be cute to post some false information about the
band just to antagonize me. Well, it worked. Anyway, I apologize for any
confusion that may have resulted from this. I have spoken to my friends
and I assure everyone on the armchair that it won't be a problem again.
Thanks,

Hello fellow Amrchairites!
I just saw the video for Brick courtesy of altvideos, and despite the
choppiness, I must say that I thought it was great. But the thing that
really impressed me was that I was watching it at work (I work at our
school's Technical Assistance Center, through our Academic Technology and
Networks department) and our Postmaster walked by and asked me what I was
watching, took one look at the screen and said, "I didn't know Ben Folds
Five had a music video!" I was extremely impressed that he recognized
them. Okay, good story I know, but I just had to share.
Wish I had tickets to the Charlotte show!

Featured album of the week:
Figures On A Beach: s/t (1989)
*****1/2 /6 stars
Another obscure and un-appreciated late new-wave band, these
guys had a minor hit with "No Stars" on an earlier album and
then scored a semi-hit with the song "Accidentally 4th Street
(Gloria)." Both songs can be found on their own on some of
the "Just Say..." compilations. This album, however, is out
of print and required great researching until I finally found
it on CD. If you remember and like either of the above songs,
track this one down. It's got a great cover of BTO's "You
Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" which, IMO, is far better than the
original.

Hello the 'Chair!
Hey... this might be a stupid question... but whatever happened to the guy
who wanted to compile a list of all the hometowns of Armchairiots? It was
an ambitious undertaking, I think... but one that would have been pretty
darn interesting...
I was just thinking about it because a while ago I saw someone from Trinity
College, and even though I didn't know which Trinity it was... I got all
excited, since I seldom get to hear from anyone who attends/attended
another NESCAC school (New England Small Colleges Athletic Conference). I
went to Amherst College myself, and I'd be curious to see what other
countries/hometowns/universities we have represented on the 'Chair.
Also: Did anyone else feel REALLY old when someone asked who Howard was in
Boxing? At first I laughed, but then I was like... ohno... BFF listeners
are missing the references to Howard Cosell/Muhammed Ali. After growing up
listening to Howard and Wide World of Sports... it was like rugburn to
think that I am now part of the group who has to "remember when..." Not
that I'm against a good case of rugburn every so often! = )
I was going to say that the Howard reference was Howard Stern and that
that's who Ben's secret lover is... but I figured my 'puter would melt from
all the flames (I am just kidding, btw -- I'm not gonna start a rumor like
that! Not gonna do it... Nah Ganna Di'it!).
Have a superb day y'all!

THe Notre Dame show last night was a good show, but the energy level
didn't seem to be as high as that of past shows. The music was
excellent, and dr. pyser was the best I have ever heard it. One thing
that threw me off was that several of the intros to the songs were far
different than what I had heard. Have they played with the intros for
this whole tour?
The first opening band (Old Pike) was terrible. awful awful awful. All
of their songs sounded like cheap knock-offs of bad 80s songs. The
second opener, Travis, was pretty good. They put on a solid show,
especially since they came out to a hostile crowd.
BFF of course far outdid the other two bands, playing basically the same
setlist as they have been. She Don't Use Jelly and Song for the Dumped
was the encore.
If anyone made a tape of the show, I would be more than happy to trade
an Indianapolis HORDE tape or some blanks for it.

If anyone is planning to go to the show on the 26th in Salt Lake
City, I will be hanging outside of the venue hopeing to somehow get
into the 21+ club. If it's not too cold, maybe I'll sit outside and
listen, or maybe I can get it. Oooh... I can only hope.
Let me know if anyone wants to meet up, and I'm sure there will be a
few people in the same bind I am....

magazine next week (the issue date is dec. 1) but it is not a feature

So, what does it say about the whole MTV attitude that Rakim-all the
attitude/image of R+B w/none of that pesky talent/musical value to get
in the way-can possibly be rated higher than Brick? BRICK, for Christ's
sake! It's arguably 1 of the best songs ever written! Even the "good"
reviews were crappy. "It's good music to sleep to." Not on your life.
"This is the kind of music I could just drive in the car + veg to." No,
that's Chubby Wubby, or whatever the hell their name is. How can these
donks miss the power + emotional strength of a song like this? I can
now officially say I fear for this generation!
BTW, can anyone tell me much about Truly? I know they're comprised of
former members of Soundgarden + Screaming Trees, but that's all I've
heard. My band just got a show opening for them here in Seattle + I'm
curious what former members of which former band are in this one. Email
me personally, if you'd be so kind.

i am very tired of seeing the same old shit on the armchairs. i've been on
it since march, and since then, about 50 people have asked about the gershwin
part in philosophy. it keeps getting asked, too, but people, just get a
fucking clue! read the damn things!! it's not that difficult, and most of
the time, they're not loaded down with repetitive questions from dumbasses.
as i said, please read them, you'll learn more!
sorry for my rant, but it had to be said.
pluvious dope--- i understand about what yr saying about BFF becoming
popular. they were *my* little indie rock piano band for over a year. you
mention blink-182, and they, also, were one of "my bands"; i saw them twice
at clubs and remember when they were called "blink" (the 182 was added after
their first CD was released a while). ahh, memories. get their first cd,
cheshire cat, it's better than the new one.
sorry for the non-BFF material.
What i'm listening to, and everyone else should too:
Chisel- set you free
Unrest- anything by them, b/c they are amazing
texas is the reason- "if it's there when we get back, it's ours" (song on 7")
superchunk- indoor living
the get-up kids- four minute mile
