Perhaps you mean "Cigarette", and I know "Fair" is based on a newspaper
article... I've heard Ben say Anna Goodman mainly wrote the words to
"Smoke" -- it's not from a magazine.

Im dying to interview Ben Folds Five and I was wondering, how?Theyre
coming to Boston December 2, hopefully I get into the sold out show-phone
interviews are cool, whatever, I just want them in my zine!! I love
advice and friendly emails.:)They do love their fans, right?~Elisabeth

We listen.
Actually, Ben Folds Five have played in Pennsylvania (an old indian word
meaning 'Road Construction') 4 times in the past 6 months.
April 30 in Philadelphia at the Theater of Living Arts
June 1 in Pittsburgh at the Metropol
November 8 in New Wilmington at Westminster College
November 9 in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory
also HORDE passed fairly close to the northeastern part of the state in
upstate NY, Cleveland isn't too far from the far northwestern region and
has hosted 2 shows, the band has also played New York City twice, easily
reachable from the Bethlehem, Hellertown region.
In the same time frame, California has had NO headlining BFF shows, only
3 opening slots for Counting Crows and 1 HORDE show. The total length of
the 4 California shows is only about 15 minutes longer than the average
of any 1 Pennsylvania show.
So there.

what is ben folds five's policy on picture taking at shows? or rather,
will i be able to get away with taking one or two flash pictures at a
show? they're coming to boston on dec 2 to play a show with everclear and
catherine wheel. i went to a show about a month ago at a similar venue,
and some people took pics...but i figure if ben has ever spoken out about
people taking flash pics, i won't do it, because i don't want to piss him
off. thanks.

Subject: Already overplayed?
Hey armchairing fivers...
Is it just me, or is "Brick" being overplayed on the radio? It's on just
about once an hour, and all my friends have tapes of it in their cars and on
their stereos. The problem is that I have to convince them that the Five
aren't compiled of just slow bricks (so to speak). A couple friends have
asked me about tapes of the song, so what I do is throw some fast stuff on
there and let them know what the group's really made of.
And ya know what else gets on my nerves? How big the band is slowly
getting. It's not that I'm worried they'll sell out, or that I don't want
them to be successful; it's just that I sometimes look at the Five and say
they're my own special favorite; noone else can claim they're their biggest
fan in the school or on the block. It's just fun to know you can always goto
the small venues and see them perform in the intimate environment they so
deservingly belong in.
I'm sure all of ya'll know where I'm coming from - at least most of you -
in this situation, but I thought I'd share and vent a little of the
frustration that gives when all your friends turn them into the Bush or Oasis
of winter '97. Anyway, can't wait till NBP - and if it's true - the other
one they plan to release a month later!!
Later fivers,
~Jordan
p.s. can anyone confirm that 2nd release in Feb.?
