Anybody interested in awesome pictures of Ben Folds Five? I was that
annoying girl in the very front snapping away at the trio during the concerts
at the Club Caprice and El Rey this past weekend. I've got 30 really great
shots of all three and about 10 not so great. If you're interested, e-mail
me at "Kjeon4003@aol.com" I want to trade some pictures for tapes, not
money.

I like this theory a lot. My personal favorite is also penis-a, but for
different reasons. . . the mention of "penis a" sparks a certain curiosity:
what of penis b, penis c, and so on? I think the BFF crew were refering to
a *specific* penis, sort of like answering a multiple choice question. ;D
WOW. This is what happens when finals week approaches. I start writing
lengthy posts about what 3 (terribly cool!) guys I've never met mayor may
not have meant while they were screaming stuff out a bus window. How do you

Dear Fivers,
In response to dave-o's message about teeny boppers at BF5 shows, and his
thought that the next show should be 18+ I have this to say: atleast the
kids today have BF5 to admire rather than Milli-Vanilli or New Kids on the
Block or some other wacked out people of the 80's. I am glad they have
embraced our BF5 culture and we should embrace them.

Subject: The Teenie Bopper Problem
I thought I'd throw in my two cents about the rapant teenager comments of
late. There was a large, but thankfully contained, cluster of high
schoolers at the Fillmore show as well. A few of them showed up early,
reserved spots near the front of the stage and then pulled their 25 friends
in right before BFF went on. One of them wouldn't give up on the idea of
crowd surfing, though he was simply dropped to the floor during every
attempt. The rest of them just sang along to everything and shrieked at
each other a lot. One girl actually talked about her upcoming Civics test
during a slower song. There weren't a lot of benefits to having this set
around, but my friend Erica and I did get to know some other people on the
basis of our shared annoyance. I'm not one to judge the under-18 crowd (I
certainly wasn't saavy or cool when I was under-18) but they should've at
least been able to gauge that it was NOT a crowd surfing kind of audience.
End of story.
And thanks to Hannah for the tip about WEAEA CD-rom action!

*sigh* Just let the kids have their fun. First off, you too were once 15.
Were you hideously obsessed with the poop-fer-brains crap on the
"everybody listens" station? Probably not. And sure, people say stupid
things, but jeez... give 'em a break... If they're not really into BFF for
the music and the power they have, it won't be a long crush. If it is,
maybe it will change them for the better! But 18+ concerts are really
annoying. I recently turned 18 myself, and was one BFFrustrated cookie
until this March when they finally played Liberty Hall all ages. Why put
an age on a fanbase? I've been just as annoyed by some 20-somethings at
shows as the younger set. Just figure, if they're young and like the Five,
they either have a great deal of maturity, or it will quickly abate for
them. Nothing against you personally, I've just seen a lot of anti-young
propaganda on here. It gets tiresome. Buy a f*cking vowel, dammit.

Subject: bff & bru -- the best-laid plans . . .
after weeks of planning and relentless hype, there was a big fat
monkeywrench thrown into the BRU bash on wednesday. the strand, the
largest of the three venues, had its doors shut six hours before
showtime by the powers-that-be, who were irked since the club failed to
pay its way-past-due taxes ($50,000-plus) and couldn't be persuaded to
let 'em stay open for the big bash.
word has it that the boys were starting their soundcheck 'round 2 p.m.
when the police came and shut the joint down. which resulted in much
hair-pulling and desperation (and you-could-hear-it-a-mile-away cussing
and fussing from the harried BRU-ers). three acts (sneaker pimps, ben
harper and letters to cleo) were moved to the call (about eight blocks
away from lupo's and the met, a bit of a hike compared to the
almost-across-the-street strand). bff ended up opening the bash at
lupo's (they were slated to close the night at the strand). doors were
supposed to open at 7 p.m., but hundreds of folks lined up while the
delayed soundchecks dragged on.
ben noted that the day had been a pain in the ass, but since 'bru had
been one of the earliest supporters of the band, it was worth it to
carry on. and they channeled their frustration into a magnificent set.
they came out with snidely whiplash-type facial hair taped to their
faces (ben with long sideburns, darren with a devlish goatee, and robert
with a handlebar moustache), noting that they had been grooming their
beards for a month in anticipation of the gig, and slammed into
'pyser,' then 'battle,' 'philosophy,' 'selfless,' 'steven,' brick,'
'fair,' 'kate,' 'one angry dwarf,' julianne,' 'underground,' and
'dumped.' the bench was tossed at the piano a few times, ben sang the
last verse of 'steven' atop the piano, the mix was superb, the harmonies
were sweet, and for 60 minutes or so, all was right with the world.
except that with the last-minute changes, and w/ bff being trumpeted as
headliners for more than a month, i'm sure more than a few fans have
horror stories to tell.
the best-laid plans . . .
lou
oh yeah: a few people have misinterpreted my reference to the
"guitar-free-zone being violated" (re: "emaline" on "naked baby
photos"). i'm GLAD the "no-guitar-zone" has been violated. i never
thought bff was about "no-anything." i just thought it was worth noting
that the first "official" guitar notes would be heard on "emaline" when
those "baby photos" are released on caroline. most folks (tho maybe not
most on the armchair) haven't heard majosha's "emaline" or the demos.
whether the strings are plucked or hammered, if they're making vital
music, i'm there.

Hello-
This is my first post to the list! Well there's this radio
station in town (106.5 the end) that seldomly plays BF5 and they're
having a small concert with Marcie's playground. It's at Dana auditorium,
at Queens college in Charlotte. But it's SOLD OUT! The place is really
small and it sold out within a few days. But anyway I was checking out
the bffweb thing and I saw the setlist for Naked Baby... and I was sorta
let down, they didn't have alot of new stuff from Whatever and ever, and
I love that cd..

I just read today's armchairs-these other people @ the Boston show
conveyed what it was about so much better than I. I just really enjoyed
the end where Ben did the "heavy metal thing"
It was a really good show-Im still glowing with post after show vibes-Ill
be grinning for weeks!
>The crowd was horrible!! One 15 year old behind me kept saying "Maaaan,
i
>wanna fuck the life outta him!"(referring to ben)
Its one thing to joke about groupie tendencies, but really! (I only
thought that about Liam Gallagher circa when I was 13-always the English
guys)
My bedtime is normally 8:00 ;) and I could not even fathom screaming that
to any band!Eeeuu!
Actually, I consider myself a "at times" mature 16 year old who is a
committed fan of Ben Folds Five-they help me through the shit hole that
is my high school and inspire the hell out of me to write songs or jam on
my piano that my mom wants to sell(I do accept intelligent angry emails
about why a piano is good and we need to keep it)

Do you think there's a possibility that the Australian pressings of
WEAEA don't contain this interactive stuff on it? After downloading all
the stuff and gearing ConnecteD up to start the fun, I was told that the
site could not read the cd in the drive.
I've had probs with my cd ROM drive before, so maybe it's just me - have
any other Australians had this problem, or what?

I saw BFF proper!!! Im so happy!!!!!!
Ben Folds Five played last night with the Catherine Wheel and Everclear,
it was a random radio bill, BFF were on first.(warning-this may be long)
And guys! I fought the power! I got into an 18+ show!
The show was so good! Im still buzzing with excitement on it. I got the
set list, too. The guys all came out on stage, then they burst into
Pyser- then Ben says, hey, were all wearing orange! It was funny. The
harmonies were tight, they seemed a little tired, but musically, they
were on! Energetic! But a good percentage of the crowd was waiting for
Everclear(WBCN-need I say more?) and the sound mix SUCKED!!! It was muddy
and Bens voice got lost.
My seat was prime-front row, in front of Darren, with excellent views of
Ben and Robert.
The set was Pyser/Battle/Philosophy/Missing(with
harmonies-OOH!)/Steven/Brick/Kate/Julianne/Dwarf/VIDEO!!!/She Dont Use
Jelly/Underground/Dumped
So during Steven's Ben came out front, danced around, it was great. My
friends and I made a sign "Ben Folds Is Sex" (It stems from my Oasis
post-its too easy for me to make myself laugh) Ben saw it-he looked a
little confused, but I think he understood.:) On the back of our sign,
we asked if they would play Video, and they did!!! That song is really
affecting to me personally-It was beautiful, I was enraptured,
:):):):):):):):):):):):):)
Underground kicked ass, it was so fun to see Robert throw himself into
the harmonies-and they ended with Song for the dumed-Ben was on the
piano, in the middle of the stage, shaking his booty and sying, I want
you m***f*** to RAWK!! in an incredibly high, KISS glam rock sort of
voice-it was a riot! He kept going, Hey..theres smoke! I think they
rocked the radio xmas show down to a nub. It was great.
I got nothing but love for Ben Folds Five! Ive been grinning happily and
smiling stupidly to myself-I want to see them again and again! ~Elisabeth
