hey there bff fans;
je suis canadienne and at the current time i can't get a hold of
the first bff cd, sadly enough. i've been listening to "whatever and ever
amen" pretty constantly ever since i got it....so in any case, i was
wondering if the bff have ever played in canada...? anyone know...? cuz i
checked the tour dates and they're not coming anywhere near where i live
anytime soon. *sigh*

I really hate it that kids who like this sort of "sophisticated music"
are often looked down upon by older fans of the group (i.e. They Might Be
Giants, Man or Astro-Man?, Soul Coughing, *Ben Folds Five*, etc.). I am
15 & I truly, honestly love Ben Folds' music. Sure, Whatever & Ever Amen
was the first album I bought of theirs, but so what? I got into it even
before this whole "Brick" deal started (I helped vote it into regular
rotation on our local radio station). I am a bit new to the whole scene,
but I DO know the names of the whole band, have some of their import CDs,
a shirt, bootlegs, & figured out Evaporated on the piano. I bought
tickets to the last show they had here, but I ended up not going &
helping to make it an older crowd. I hate having bands come through town
with an 18+ concert because they are usually the ones I want to go to. Of
course, it could be said on the other side of the spectrum that an unhip
older fellow / miss could try to be cool once again by becoming a fan of
an up & coming band & tear down their Styx posters & put up
computer-sheet printed "Ben Folds Five" logos with the lyrics to Brick
underneath it. Oh yeah, & instead of saying that they want to perform
intercourse with one of the band members, they end up yelling "When is
that song they play on the radio coming on?". I've seen it before. I
don't want to put down the older fans of the group, I am just sick of
being stereo-typed as a trendy guy who listens to *THEIR* music when I
should be out listening to something like Pantera, Green Day, or Bush
that they don't understand (I don't like these bands much, either - my
cousins complain because I have no CDs by bands they have heard of). The
moral of this rant? Well, i am glad that you asked. It is: THERE ARE
SOME BANDS THAT PEOPLE CAN ENJOY, NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE!!!! AND NO
MORE 18+ CONCERTS (except maybe for Styx or Van Halen)!!!!!!!! Thank you
& good day.
Steve!

hello.
i just thought i's say a lil something about the recent gossip going on
about ages and annoying crouds.
we've all been to a show with an annoying croud (anyone in the chapel hill
area seen a Jumpstarts show lately???), but who cares? we're all just
there to have fun, and if other people have fun differently than you do,
forget about it. if their way of having fun bumps into you and your
girlfriend, causing you to 'swivle somewhat,' push back! they're young.
their bones can handle it. the point of people mosching and bouncing
around is not to bounce up against a brick wall of angered 'old folks,'
but to get pushed back. that's why its fun.
and to the youngin' argument: the majority of Ben's lyrics are about what
a dork he was when he was in jr high and high school. this is, believe it
or not, going to appeal to the younger croud. just because someone's not
holding a beer in their hand doesn't mean they suck.
sorry for the long post....

For whoever posted about hearing Brick in Friendly's--my parents came home
last night and told me they heard it at Friendly's too, and then the waitress
walked by, and she was like, "this is such a great song...". And I was
wearing my bff t-shirt to school the other day, and a bunch of people came up
and said they had heard ben folds five on the radio. Earlier in the year,
people were like, who? It's changing.
And about young people, I emailed the guy who posted the message, and he
thanked me for sending a mature letter, and respected what I had to say, even
though I'm the age he was targeting in his post. So hey, we all have
different opinions--just let him express his, and if you have a problem with
it, talk to him or something.

Hi,
What is all this Penis A/eh! stuff, I think I missed something
on this earlier on.
I was watching the last episode of Midday show last week and
they had a review of the yr. Of course BFF came up, Kerrie-Anne
(the host) said she couldn't figure out why it was 5 and there was
only 3 of them, and Geoff came up with the "joke" that it was the
sum total of their IQ's. Man I wish somebody would say something
like that to me........
Oh well, see ya next time

yaknow, going along with "trendy" music is NOT just a young-people thing to
do. plenty of people older than 18 or 21 or whatever still listen to
"modern rock" or whatever they call it these days, and it honestly should
not matter how old someone at a ben folds five concert is. there could be a
50 year old next to me on one side and a 12 year old on the other side, the
12 year old being more mature and i would not care because i go to concerts
for the music. sure people at concerts piss me off sometimes, but i dont
generalize them into being "those damn middle age people" do i? i think its
just sick to try to assume you know that much about someone just by looking
at them and thinking, "she cant be more than thirteen, isnt it her
bedtime?" and not wanting to share something beautiful like ben folds five
with them, just because they might not understand quite as much about the
music as you do. do you think that music majors go to concerts all
pretentious like that, going "god these people dont belong here, they dont
even know anything about music in the first place..."?
something to think about
maybe none of us belong at these concerts?
that sure as hell isnt going to stop me
thank you for listening to me bitch
love
