Wahoo!! We can truly say that the Armchair has received official status
on the mailing list list of mailing lists, so to speak. We're gettin' SPAM! Is
it just me, or did everone else catch the credit card advertisement so
cleverly snuck into the last Armchair. (#680 I think).
Frank, if ya would please - and I don't mean to sound ingrateful -
install some Spam blocking software, because I'm sure I speak for almost
everyone in saying that none of us want to read a bunch of advertising ploys.

>BEN FOLDS FIVE RULES & REGULATIONS FOR LIVE SHOWS
YAY!!! I agree totally with Steve. These rules and regs show people
like Dave-o exactly how stupid they are being. I mean, people go to a gig
to see a band... They do not go out of their way to annoy the shit out of
you. If you are being annoyed, either ask the person to alter their
behaviour, alter your own sensitivity or just move!!! It's not that hard
to do!!! People don;t go to a gig and act the way YOU want them to, coz
they're going for their own listening pleasure... :)
And what;s this about just sitting back and mellowing out? Christ, if I
wanna mellow out, I lock myself in my room in the dark and play some real
slow music. I don;t see bff to mellow out!!! I go there to rock my arse
off!!!

You got them, I need them. Can we set up a trade? I tried to start my
live show collection, but got a really crappy sounding one from somewhere
& time that I don't know. It DOES have some of Video Killed the Radio
Star on it, though! But the guy who sent it to me cut it off about
halfway through the song. You can check out what I have to offer at:

...was because my parents didn't trust my brother's driving skills or any
of my friends who could drive that were under 20 (and those 3 that were
over were busy). I spent $24, but it was towards a noble cause, right?
RIGHT?! Come on, back me up!! Right??!!? Well, that was back on November
1st (at Eastern Michigan University, for the record), so I'm just hoping
that they come by again during the February tour & that they are at a
closer venue (since EMU is an hour & a half away), like Clutch Cargo's or
the State Theatre. I also hope that it's on a weekend because my folks
have restricted me from anything during a school week because of a bad
experience where I was out til' 2 AM.
Oh, & to davey-o, esquire (which means the first one to be named that in
a family, right? Wow, & no Websters!), I feel sorry that you hate the
youth so. We are not all bed wetters (most of us stopped that when we
were 3 or 4. But you might have experienced otherwise. What's good for
the gander isn't always good for the goose, am I right?), trendy (Oh,
come ON! Going to a Ben Folds Five concert is trendy now?! Get in step
with the youth, sir / ma'm! Trendy is going to a Hanson, Puff Daddy,
Bush, soon to be shot for some gang-related thing rapper, or Spice Girl
concert), alcoholic / chain smoker / poser (okay, this is a smaller
quantity, but probably everyone here has at least tried any of these -
*ahem* rumored pot-smoker Ben Folds, anyone?), or screeching teeny-bopper
(hey, I have a pretty deep voice, so I can't screech. Anyway, I'm usually
taping these things, so they annoy me as much as the next fellow, but
let's let them enjoy the concert, right? If you don't like them, just
stand aside.). Davey, you have to learn that just because one / a few
folks do it doesn't mean that everyone like them does. I like to sit back
& enjoy the show, not jump around like a maniac unless there's no other
option. I like the orderly moving-around part of the show, which is
becoming less common. If anyone has a chance to go to a They Might Be
Giants concert, do it! They have 3 dance parts in their resources.
There's a conga line during No One Knows My Plan(off of John Henry;
TMBG's departure album), a 50's dance set to Twisting (off of Flood), &
free-style hippy dancing to The Guitar (a remake of The Lion Sleeps
Tonight from Apollo 18). All that & they have a confetti cannon &
disembodied puppet heads singing Exquisite Dead Guy (off of their recent
& not too great selling Factory Showroom; go out & buy it now!)! This is
starting to turn into an ad for They Might Be Giants concerts, so I
should end it.
Sorry I'm young & like the same band that you do, Dave-o.
Steve!
PS, sorry for the long post. I hope not to have another one unless it's
something everyone can enjoy, like 2 cats wearing boxing gloves fighting
each other. Hey! I should start writing that one & making an ASCII
picture!

yeah, i know all about ben. me and him, we go way back. a couple of pals. i
hear his songs, and it's like, man, how does he get inside my head like that?
i can't even understand it. and that part in "underground" where he's all "i
got this pain in my heart, that's all..." oh man, that's what i'm all about.
it's like, he and i were lovers. i KNOW no one else feels the same way I do.
man, those kids at the show, screaming and shit, man, they all SUCK!!!!
THE ben folds five are a band. not a commercial. they don't use guitars, so
if you listen to them, you're someone who just loves the music.... yeah, yeah,
yeah, man, chumbawumba SUCKS!!!!
i don't buy into the armchair scene...
so many people who think they're something tough, or are exclusionary, or are
any number of other things.
so many people who just argue, argue, argue.
i would like to submit this last request...
ben folds five is a band. not a lifestyle. get over it.
and what's more, where's the love?
we all like ben folds five. so quit with the jabberwocky and let's get the
kettle boiling...
you know what i'm saying. i think i've insulted just about every member of
the armchair by now. so , unsubscribe and all that jazz, but guys, for future
armchairs to be good news, just please, be nice to one another. so long.

Hey all
I apologise for posting my last message twice, I don't know how that
happened.
Anyways, I read somewhere that 'Song For The Dumped' was on the
soundtrack for the movie Mr Wrong and so I watched it but I didn't hear
it anywhere in the movie. Do songs always appear in the movie itself if
they're on the soundtrack? Has anyone else actually heard the song in
the movie? Because in the credits the song actually appears. If anyone
can help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated!
Later!
Karen.

Actually, neither came first. It was from a 70's (I think) rock song. I
can't for the life of me remember what band it was, but it was someone big.
It's in the screenplay, but that's at home so I can't look it up.

Wow, contraversial issues on the BF5 list. What has the world come to?
Seriously folks, let's be a little respectful. We are going to have
differences of opnions. People of ages over 25 are going to get tired of
going to shows with fourteen year-old's and teenagers are going to get
frustrated with over 18 shows. Stop acting so surprised when people
respond with their opnion.
Speaking of opinion, I'll give you mine, if you'd like to read it. First
of all, BF5's popularity is increasing, that's something we are going to
have to accept. With a group as good as this one, of course people will
start liking them. I'm am always happy when I find someone else who
likes the same music that I do, so I like the fact that they are getting
air time. IF you are afraid that people will only like BF5 for Brick,
then tell everyone who you see who likes brick to get the whole album,
so that they can hear everything else. The friend who got me hooked on
BF5 always says that the only reason he buys CD's is so that he can loan
them out to other people and introduce other people to the music he has
found. Worked for me!
And yes, concerts are going to change, probably for the worse. But if
you are really there for the music, then you'll be able to enjoy it where
ever you hear it.
And one more thing. I will always sing at concerts. Everyone else out
there who is a musician in any respect will probably agree that the best
way to understand and feel music is to make it, so I will always sing
along to music that I love. But, I generally end up standing right in
front of the speakers anyways and get completely blasted away by pure
bass, so no one but me would be able to tell I was singing anyways. And
yes, I sing quietly enough that I and everyone around me hears the group
more then me.
Keep happy, above ground and under,
Pete
