PLEASE KEEP YOUR POSTS SHORT
Now that many list members are back with us, the volume of posts will
be increasing. This makes it important to stay on topic and keep your
posts concise. Avoid the tendency to ramble, as this increases the
amount of text readers have to wade through. If you want to ramble on,
take it to IRC or the newsgroup.
Also remember to be very selective in your quoting of others'
messages. Don't quote an entire post just to add one or two lines. And
be especially careful not to quote the whole digest!!

Chicago shows just went on sale and it *is* an all ages venue. This should
work for most venues but not all.
>Ok is it mean or is Ben Folds Five delibierately taking so long to

>website every single day?!!?!?.....by the way this may just be a wrong
>but my friend was talking to her cousin(who works at Massey Hall) and
Wow...Massey Hall is a GREAT place to see a show. Fabulous acoustics
and great sightlines.I think they played Lee's Palace last time. Another
great venue but shitty views unless you get there REAL early.

Has anyone from Dallas heard anything about the show 2/11? The BBF website
says they are playing at Deep Ellum Live, but no one is showing any record
of this. I have called Deep Ellum Live and there number is not a working
number. That place has changed names so many times who knows what it is
anymore. Are the tickets through Ticketmaster? They don't have any record
of BBF playing in Dallas 2/11. What's the deal????

Subject: darren jessee talks "brick" in billboard
the following appears in this week's billboard magazine, in "The Modern
Age" column by Carrie Bell:
The members of Ben Folds Five prefer their music hard, distorted, and
chock-full of indie rock sensibility. Modern rock radio and its
listeners, on the other hand, like quite the opposite, as "Brick," the
act's melodic and quiet anthem about loss, is finding a home in heavy
rotation.
"It is a slower and more emotional song than we've ever done, which made
us a little hesitant about using it as a single," drummer Darren Jessee
says. "I mean, we've worked hard to be a rocking piano band and have
waved that flag for three years in clubs. And now, the song that people
recognize is basically a ballad. But many bands break out with a slow
song."
Jessee also admits he didn't know Ben Folds Five was sitting on a hit --
the song is No. 9 on this issue's Modern Rock Tracks chart -- but he
says that "Brick" was an important personal addition to the trio's
sophomore effort, "Whatever and Ever Amen."
"It was one of the last songs put on the record. We finished it while we
were in the studio," he says. "The ghost of that song haunts us, though.
It was the first time we recorded in the same room and the first time
Robert [Sledge] used an upright bass. This pure, intimate setting made
everyone take to it immediately, even before it was a single."
Jessee admits the track is about a couple dealing with abortion, but he
is concerned that saying so will turn it into a political theme song.
"I don't want people to request the Ben Folds Five abortion song. We
weren't trying to make a stand or change others' opinions," he says.
"Overall, it's a song about what a person goes through in a traumatic
situation which everyone can relate to. It's elusive enough that there
is room for interpretation. I've heard people say it was about a couple
taking their pet to the vet to put it to sleep."
Image concerns aside, Jessee hopes the single's exposure will help the
band's popularity plight. "We want to do things like Letterman and want
people to hear us. The DJs who love us now have a song to play."
That's it. Also of note, "Whatever" has vaulted back onto the Billboard
album chart. It re-entered at #171, moved up to #140, and is at #126
this week. The SNL appearance should launch it into the top 100.

Greetings!
Does anyone know if there will be any singles released from the "Naked
Baby Photos" disc? It would probably be surprising if that did
happen, but I thought I'd ask the question, anyway.

Subject: How I got into BFF
I was just thinking about how I first got into Ben Fols Five and I realized it
was a pretty weird story. I was listening to Counting Crows' "Monkey" and the
lyrics went "got Ben Folds on my radio right now." And I was like " who is
ben folds?" then a couple months later I saw on the upcoming album list at
the store that BFF was coming out w an album. So when it came out I was like
its probably pretty good, and bought it and the rest, as they say, is history
