I checked the BF5 tour dates and sadly found that Minneapolis, MN (or anywhere
in MN....) was not included. But, I did see that this was a "short tour". My
question is: Does anyone know when BF5 will be playing in MN again? I missed
them when they played here a couple months ago... Just checking to see if any
of you insiders have the know of BF5s next MN gig.

answers to my question are appreciated!! E-mail me if you have info on BF5s
tour: Dreamer528@aol.com

Thanks!

OK, guys. Here it is again. . . HOW TO MAKE WEAEA *EVEN* COOLER

you will need to get 3 plug ins from the internet, as well as your WEAEA
audio CD. (and of course, a CD-ROM drive and a fairly speedy computer. .
*mine's fast and it took a minute or so at times.)

(The original US pressings (with hidden track) work, as do the new US ones
(with silence between tracks.) I hear that the japanese ones don't, but it
can't hurt to try.)

1) go to http://www.macromedia.com/index.html
download SHOCKWAVE (not SHOCKWAVE FLASH.)

2)go to http://www.voyagerco.com/cdlink/getstarted/win.html

- -make sure your computer has Win32s. The site will help you check this.
If you don't have it or aren't sure, download it at the site.

- -download Voyager CDlink.

- -configure CD Link. (i did it the quick way. . .the site will guide you.)

3) go to http://www.cdextra.com/ConnecteD (the last D is supposed to be
capitalized!!)

- -click "getting started". this will display a list of instructions similar
to the one I just gave you. Skip to step 2, download CD control extra and
follow the instructions about support folders.
(to decompress CD control, I used pkunzip.exe. If you don't have a
decompression program, just do an internet search and find one or
something. . .)

4) once you've got all three plug-ins downloaded and configured the way
I've described, quit your browser. Then log back on, and go to
http://www.cdextra.com/ConnecteD again.

5) put the WEAEA audio CD into your CD ROM drive. (make sure the windows
CD player is closed after you do this! Mine opens automatically, the
stupid thing.)

6) click on "the Ben Folds Five ConnecteD"

7) at this point the fun should begin! (if for some reason it doesn't,
visit the troubleshooting section of http://www.cdextra.com/ConnecteD/ for
further help.) Your browser should automatically take you to
http:www.cdextra.com/ConnecteD/BenFoldsFive/ you should see the BFF logo,
the WEAEA logo, then a slide show of pix of the guys, and also a side bar
feature (and hear One Angry Dwarf). HAVE FUN!

cool. Hope that helps. :)

Well, a friend of mine borrowed some equipment from work so he
could tape the Chicago show, but the friskers at the door wouldn't let him
bring it in because the portable DAT recorder was TOO BIG. The recorder
he had was a Tascam unit about the size of a high school biology textbook.
Out off all the reasons to not allow some equipment into the building,
too big has to the the lamest thing I ever heard. So if anyone has
a good quality copy of the entire Chicago show, please email me
so we can arrange a trade.

Thanks,

Hey there guys, this is basically for Massachusetters.
Now if BFF comes to MA, where would they play in Boston? Last time it
was the Roxy, which totally excludes the kiddies...so thats probably a
no. Im hoping the Avalon, because that would be cool with real, true
fans (maybe we need radar....gaydar? Dawsons Creek refrence..Love that
teen agnst!) Im thinking though that they could probably play the
Orpheum. That'd be a dissapointment, because I dont have the strings to
pull to get in the front row, stand up, and jump around stupidly..the
orpheum is too sit down for the five. A place like the Strand would be
great, but the Strand closed. I saw Oasis play there and storm off
stage, too, cos someone threw a shoe at Noel.
Lastly, fantazing about BFF coming to MA....maybe it will happen???
They should just screw the clubs in Boston and play at my house.
I do have a little fantasy that BFF could follow me around ALL THE TIME
and play at my volition. Life would be so much more interesting.
Another band that would be cool with that is the Amazing Royal Crowns. I
know you guys understand...its like when youre walking around, bored, so
you sing the Mission Impossible theme in your head and BOOM! Life is
exciting....

Subject: New Fans Suck!!

Someone posted a review of the Pontiac, Michigan show the other day which stated that most of the fans at the show were ignorant. Just because the author claims to be a hardcore BF5 fan, he/she thinks they have the right to cut down all of the newly fou
nd BF5 fans. This is wrong!
I have been a BF5 fan since the early days too, and, at first, I also felt a little hatred for you new fans. But after thinking about it for a while, I realized that just because someone bought the record because they heard "Brick" on the radio, it does
n't make them any less of a fan than me. They appreciate the music just as much as I do, they just discovered it a little later. I know I would hate to go to Dave Matthews Band concert and get cut down because I didn't buy their first album the day it c
ame out, or I don't have 20 different bootlegs!!
The fact is, it's all about the music, not when you jumped on the band-wagon. You had to expect that music this good wouldn't go ignored by the masses for long. So all of us old fans should just stop complaining about the new fans. It would be STUPID
to stop liking a band just because they're too popular. Later, Jared

Subject: stupid stupid friends o mine

ok i'm new to the armchair here but i'd just like to express my dismay at
the stupidness(for a lack of better words) who thought i was retarded
when i mentioned that i heard the greatest band in the world they are
now finally thinking they're the coolest band on earth and there's
nothing wrong with them thinking they are the coolest band on earth. it
just seems like everyone was trying to make me feel like i was an idiot
because i liked this band and they would never amount to anything(thats
not even important their music makes me glad). so despite this negativity
i went to the show at the electric factory last november (97) and brought
my friend who said "we could have left after the opening band for all i
was concerned" (the band was travis- they were really good too) but it
upsets me that now all the sudden that the band is cool all my friend
says "that was like(she says it kind of ditzy try it, it sounds more
realistic that way) the best day of my life when we saw ben" and i just
say whatevah sistah. it just makes me sad that so many people are not
caring about what THEY're (not just ben is in the band) saying and
singing their hearts out over. does this upset anyone else? maybe its
just me i don't know. e-mail me folks let me know what you think. sorry
for the lack of puncuation. OH and if anyone is going to the show at the
e-factory in philly on saturday night let me know i'd like to meet some
of you. and if TOMMY is out there somewhere please come to the show
because i'd love to hang out wth you afterwards this time ok thats it.
sorry i took up so much space

Need help really bad. I've been put in quite a delema. After I got back from
the show in St. Louis I talked w/ my girlfriend(also a huge fan) about the
show. She was unable to go because of prior engagements. Her birthday is
coming up on March 2, and she says a tape of the show would just be the
greatest present. This wasn't a request of "if you can get it, it would be
nice" it was one of "get me the tape". Sorry about the whining, but I it
would be appreciated. I'll hook you up with something.

Subject: Sledge's gently protruding right nipple

Hi, Fivers.
Sorry, but this is going to be pretty bloody long.
Just ducked into Kinko's from the Toronto show, and my eyes are
falling back in my head. Now that I'm in front of a computer that takes
less than 10 minutes to open one frigging Armchair digest, I've been
catching up, so first to catch up with myself.
Finally got NBP a few weeks ago on my way to work at the radio
station. Walked around with my discman on totally blissed. Program
director/Music Director asked "who?" and I said "you know, those guys
with the #8 Modern Rock Track on Billboard?" "Oh, yeah," he said
blankly. The Production director/musician I totally dig took my
headphones and I had him hear some of "Alice Childress". He liked it,
tho' he said Ben sounded a little like Jackson Browne. (Uh....okay,
replied my hormones.) Next night I drove an hour after work to see half
a show by Moe Berg - God love him - and chat a little, and then their
van and my car trundled carefully home over the icy road. I didn't get
coffee, preferring to wail along to "Emaline" about 100 times and laugh
my head off to "Fanny Packs" about 50. Hey, it worked. Two weeks or so
later, I see "Brick" has made it to about #6 on R&R's AAA chart. By the
end of the week, it's on *our* playlist. ACK! My PD/MD sez: "Oh I
always thought it was a good song - I just wanted to see what it would
do." (that's the way it works sometimes, gang. That's why you're
getting this big ol' brick snowball running us down.) Someone had
corrected me last time when I said Much was barely playing the video -
they'd had it since maybe the first of the year, and I saw it once on
the Wedge (120 Minutes-ish). That week I mentioned it, they'd added it
to medium and now it's Katie bar the door (as it were).
Okay, I'm caught up now. Because of work I missed the Edge Live in
Toronto thing, so thanks to those who've mentioned it. Today, though, I
was on afternoon drive (hope to catch the Much repeat), so I could go
right to the show. There was this ridiculous line outside the Phoenix
in the pissing rain because they were taking way too frigging long
getting everyone searched or something. But while in line I saw Ben
noshing in the big Major-label bus. Soon he left said bus and walked
the few yards to get in the club side entrance. This being Toronto, no
one yelled out or anything. As you may figure by my rather sleepy,
scattered style here, I can't recall a full setlist, but I'm sure some
wise people will post proper details soon. But here are some moments:
Robert had a shirt (dunno what it said), a flower ("I feel like a figure
skater") and a mysterious note (taken fairly seriously, but not
discussed on mike - what could that have been about?) thown at him.
When they brought out the beeg bass for Brick, someone yelled "Yo-Yo
Ma", and they eventually worked out on a couple songs about Yo-Yo Ma.
They're still usually rushing things and Steven's is still really messy
(dig the backing vocals on the verses, tho'), but even their worst is
any other band's best. Darren was a rock but wasn't terribly
demonstrative; except when he came out for "Underground" and instructed
us to try to see how quiet we could be (which failed miserably). Very
disappointing to have no rap jam, Emaline, Julianne, Best Imitation
(double damn), Sacrifice or Satan, but we did get Jelly (which we didn't
have last time), and everything else pretty much made up for what was
missing. Not enough jumping on the piano from Ben; the most he did was
throw the stool at the keys once. Ben sent one song out to his cousin
Elise (or Elyse?) who lives in Toronto and I think I saw her squirming
giddily (Are you out there now? Is this true?). Oh, and there was a
tale of the "original Kate" having a"girls kick ass" sticker on her car
and getting into trouble with the cops after getting pulled over for
speeding. But as the subject heading may suggest, the star of the night
for me had to be Robert - maybe about 5 pounds heavier than last year,
but I found him to be a non-stop entertainment machine, the designated
guy who sez "thanks" after a song, a fuzzy bundle of lazy charisma (more
appropriately, as David Lee Roth might say, "car-azz-ma"). Yes, he did
the Disco Diva thing (it ain't Steve Perry, but it'll do fiiiiine), and
during Boxing he shushed people who asked for a towel and unwittingly
proceeded to give one of the finest exhibitions of smoking I have ever
seen. DAMN! Oh, and I was way over on Ben's side, which would explain
why I just mention the *right* nipple. I dunno what it was, why I'm
reacting to this night in this way. But that's just the way it went.
I'll read this next week and wonder what the hell kinda crack I was on.
But in the words of Eric Carmen, that's rock'n'roll.
Despite all this voodoo done to me, do I regret not giving my golf
shirt to Sledge when he asked for it last time? No. But maybe next time
I *will* regret it.
Also last time at Lee's Palace, I was able to hang out and say hi,
but this wasn't the time. It was way too crowded and they were just
taking media passes (which I guess I could've had if I'd been a proper
weasel) and I'm not good at pushing my way through that kind of stuff
anyway. Besides, I had to get home to finally sleep and get to
work...uh, but first, go to Kinko's and plunk out several dozen partial
sentences like a raving lunatic.
Sorry, everybody. I'll go get back in my car now. Give me some
volume.

Peace,
Valerie
