Subject: a sad day in Michigan fandom.....
Well, I was listening to the radio at around 7 tonight doing my homework.
There is a show on 89X (88.7 for all those unaquainted) called the
People's Choice & on this particular night, a rappa' named Wycleff (?)
who has been at the top of the show for about 2 weeks went up against a
certain band named Ben Folds Five with their "follow up" to the hit
single, Brick. Of course, i called all of my friends within a second of
hearing this & told them to vote for it, which hopefully they did. On
came Song for the Dumped & I couldn't have been happier (unless it was
One Angry Dwarf, but what are you going to do?).
By the end of the contest, harsh comments had been thrown by both parties
(the words "Ben Folds Five should be shot" rang through my ears like...
something that rings & you don't like it's sound.... also, the wise words
of "this is my favorite station & I turned it on & heard rap. I don't
want that on my station" were like Pixie-Stix to my ears...
metaphorically speaking, of course), but the winner was..... and I
writhed in agony when I heard this.... Wycleff. DAMN HIS OILY HIDE were
my first thoughts.
Although, i could also remember that back in October, a little song
called "brick" lost after 2 nights at the top & went on to become one of
the most overplayed songs of the year. So, what do you say all you
Michiganders show the radio-listening community that Ben Folds knows how
to rock & that this isn't a one-hit-wonder? Call up 89X at:
313-298-7999 (7XXX - get it? heh-heh... not that funny, actually)
& request SFTD. That's how Brick got on the charts, & hopefully Song for
the Dumped will do well, but not so well it's lost to the public again.
*Listened to WEAEA, but skipped #3 for some reason for the FIRST
time.....*
Steve!
