this is gonna be a long one, but HEAR ME OUT! :-)

okay i dont know about you guys but i am frothing at the mouth to see
the burt, elvis and bff tv thingy. i just hope that it doesnt get torn
to shreds by tv people, you know? sometimes the best stuff in shows like
that is left on the cutting room floor. :-(

oh on the acapella thing of slnit.. i think that a good acapella group
can cover ANY song, even bff. ex: the bobs. brilliant, and ANOTHER b
group. i suggest checking them out if you havent. and there is this
group out of mit called redwood that i heard of from a friend that are
good too.

teenybopper origins: i dont remember if anyone adressed it but im pretty
sure that it came around in the fifties with chuck berry (the man who
invented rock and roll in my opinion), elvis presley, jerry lee lewis,
buddy holly, and bill haley. that is what i thought. hmm. good question
though.

i thought the underground heads thing was brilliant. i remember the
first time i heard it. i was on the bus going home from a drama club
trip in high school. i was listening to my walkman really late at night
when everyone else was asleep. i was elated to hear the first really
original music i had heard in a long time. it gave me faith in 90s music
again.

i was shocked to learn that someone else preaches the love of nerf
herder. yaaa.

oh on the hidden track thing. i dont really have the explination why it
isnt there but on later pressings the talking and hidden tracks are just
not there. i converted my roommate and several people on my floor and my
best friends to benism and their cds are different than my early tapes
in that respect. its sad though. that is so fun.

i agree with the movement of bff doing caroline no. good song. but i
have a bias towards pet sounds. :-)
i also think maybe them doing brass in pocket would be nice. i can just
hear them singing..'gonna use my arms,..gonna use my legs..gonna use my
style...gonna use my..my..my..imagination..' 'im special! (special!)
etc. fun.

oh would the guy from missouri email me back! id like to know a fellow
benhead in mo.

and finally, on the grammar thing. IM SORRY. it was misconstrued. i
didnt mean it like that at all. i should have made myself clearer. i was
just saying that if someone is going to dog someone else for saying that
swearing loses credibility, you should watch yourself too. if you are
going to point a finger and scream at someone else, be careful not to
make yourself look stupid. you knooooow dont write something like 'your
so stuopid, you suk'. i was being sarcastic, i should have made myself
clearer. :-) sorry!!!!!!! oh and i DO have something better to do on a
friday night, but there isnt a whole lot to do on a tuesday night in a
dorm room in a hick town in the middle of missouri with no car. just in
my defense.

well i hope everything is okay now.

1. To those of yall who emailed me and requested the Sledge Interview, I have
a paper due this Friday (on Korematsu v. U.S., a fascinating Supreme Court
case, FYI) so I may not get around to sending out that email until then, so
bear with me, you enthusiastic moochers, you.

2. My $0.02 on Eddie Walker:I think it's about a young guy who was in a
debilitating accident of some kind, whose family comes to visithim in the
hospital or the rehabor whatever, and he's totally not how he used to be but
they try to cheer him up by reminding him of his past experiences, MUY
depressing, I can imagine a very bleak video...

3. My $0.02 on BF5 a cappella: that fuckin' ROCKS! I am so jealous of whoever
at Williams arranged SLNIT, that's incredible! I guess it's cause there's
nothing else to do in Williamstown...heh heh. Oh and, Erin, who asked about
how there could be perc. and bass in an A/C tune, uh, you need to run out and
listen to some modern collegiate a cappella posthaste. This is the style where
the singers take instrumental parts, and the soloist sings over them, lots of
"Bop bop bop bop" "doo doo doo doowaah" singing going on. I should know, I
helped found a group at Tufts and arranged Smashing Pumpkins for them, it CAN
be done! ANYWAY, BF5 as an a/c choice must be a smash hit.

Enough of that noise...when are the boys going to be on Nightline?

I was just listening to some boots and was playing the song "Kalamazoo" and
was wondering why it ever got "retired" along with "Cool Whip" :) Two fun
songs that emphisize the boy's early days. I'd love to hear some songs like
that on the new album. Great piano playing and fun lyrics. WEAEA had its
share of serious ballads, they should go back to the self titled for this
one, songs like "The last polka" and "Uncle Walter" The songs that make
you laugh. Ahh the good old days.

I was watching Beat UK, (yes here in Australia I was watching Beat UK) and I
said to my mum "you watch in a couple of weeks ben folds five will be on
that" then later on during the show, it had the hit predictions. Now what do
you think was first?? Brick of course. Hmm..
I got Ground Zero on tape. Just telling ya all. Thank god my mothers friend
has bad taste.
Still wondering why WAEA was being given away to the old goobers on Wheel of
Fortune. Along with the Fiona 'pineapple' Apple c.d.
Question: at the start of Fanny Packs, what does Robert say before Ben says
damn?? Is it "is that where your ring went?" or what??
Also at the end of Fair Ben says something (during the last 2 mins or so) I
think it's fair hang on, yep in between the last 1:30 and last 1:00 I can't
make it out cos I'm too lazy and I thought you nice people would do it for me.
In Brick after "for the moment we're alone" is there a ringing?? Everytime I
hear it on the radio I hear it. I'm sure. Unless it's just my c.d, the one
they have at Power FM, and JJJ. It's just a ringing, not suggesting it's a
phone or anything but there is a ringing. Intended maybe?? Maybe just one of
the instruments ringing or something, I'm no expert at this kind of thing.
So you experts help me. (??)
Well I'm off to chat with Aqua, fun indeed!!

seriously there is:
Bis
Chris Ballew of PUSA
Bic Runga (??? They are on a cd I have with Kate on it)
My old fave Australian band Brown Hornet
Butthole Surfers
Babybird (eh)
Babylon Zoo
note: I don't particulary like these bands okay??

I must admit, as helpful as you were in posting the lyrics for a fellow
armchairite, I hate to inform you that the lyrics on www.lyrics.ch are very
very wrong. Listen to the song, and see if it sounds anything like "summer
champagne". I'm unsure of the actual lyrics, but I know these are not it.

Of course, given the subject matter of "Brick," it forever will, in my mind,
be nicknamed, "There Goes The Son"!

The experience was probably not anything Ben would joke about....and I don't
think we have any right to either.

>>does anyone else think "fair" and "missing the war" are really great
pieces of music?

Yeah Jen! "Missing the War" is one of my favorites from WAEA. Rock on!

>>I must ask if anyone has any info on how to acquire tickets to
the April 29 show in Durham, NC. Any, all help would be appreciated, as
I am going to cease breathing (not permanently hopefully) if i do not
have access to the show in question.

Hey, ticketmaster usually handles BFF events. They're nazi bastards from past
experience, but they'll usually get you to the show!

>>Well, I was listening to the radio at around 7 tonight doing my homework.
There is a show on 89X (88.7 for all those unaquainted) called the
People's Choice & on this particular night, a rappa' named Wycleff (?)
who has been at the top of the show for about 2 weeks went up against a
certain band named Ben Folds Five with their "follow up" to the hit
single.....Wycleff. DAMN HIS OILY HIDE were my first thoughts.

Hey Michigan....BFF rocks, but Wycleff Jean is pretty kickin as well. And
from past experience once again, those things are usually rigged. :) Don't
sweat it too much. And check out Wycleff....it's good stuff!

Subject: Bands, Forming, why you do it

The bands I've played in we have done it for pure enjoyment.
Anyone who has played a successful gig can attest that it is
a real buzz when it all comes off, and nothing beats jamming
with mates.

Eventually, I guess, you reach a stage were you realize you
may have talent and you look for muso's that suit your style,
or that you'd like to jam with (this happens by word of mouth, etc...)
Then you usually go into this whole lets practice every day/night
you put together a few originals, you iron out the wrinkles, you
just work on becoming a tight unit. You then realize that you better
do something with all the effort yor putting in so you do a bit of
recording, play heaps of local gigs, hope to pick up some support
work, you ust want to get your "face" out there.

AND HERE'S MY POINT:
I guess if you get "big" it's a chance to finally reap the rewards
of all your hard effort. Being a muso at the early stages means
you usually have to work 9-5 practice when you can, lug your
equipment from place to place (mega expensive due to bens
piano, make arrangements to fit everything) into your overpacked
schedule.

So when you get the chance to make some money you take it, so
you don't have to do all that shit anymore, you can get money to
do different, expensive stuff (such as BFF and their desire to use
a string section) you can afford to be more inventive with your music.

So don't bag bands just cause they take the opportunity to make
a bit of money, cause it allows them to focus soley on the music
and bring in new ideas previously unaffordable, which has to be
a better thing!!

We a cappella people are a strange breed--it's just our terminology.

When I sing the notes to what's normally played by a bass, I just call it
"bass." When someone is making drum noises, we call it percussion.
We have sax and guitar solos and even a flute part in one song--even though
it's just us singing.

I'm sure this ground was singing everything themselves; it just didn't
sound that way. I'd like to arrange some BFF for my a cappella group next
year myself, but I have to work out how to get the piano in there <grin>.
