Subject: a few short notes

Hey guys,
In response to a few questions posed:

Erin/Grover: I'm in an a cappella group at school (we just took second
place in our regional semi-final!), and you CAN have bass and percussion.
The percussion is vocal, and you basically attempt to make really cool
sounds with your mouth, tongue, teeth, etc., until it sounds right. The
bass is just the lowest male part, and I know in a lot of our
arrangements, we pump up the bass too.

Whitney: Rosemary and Cameron actually DON'T intersect - it's weird. At a
concert here in Chapel Hill, Ben said, "A lot of people ask me why it's
Rosemary and Cameron, since they don't intersect. Well, it fits the
meter, and it's a lot better than 'down by where the crackheads live.'"
Thought you might like to know. : )

BTW, I just got a CD copy of the Where's Summer B? single - it's
absolutely fantastic! Check out CD Now (www.CDnow.com) if you're
interested. It was on backorder so it took a month to get it, but it was
well worth it.

Later,
Lee

It's getting so haard to be creative with subject headings these days.

Anyhoo, has anyone gotten a tally on how many "final words" about this
whoole "selling out" business yet? Seems like no one has been informed as
to who the REAL expert is. I wish they'd just let us know, so we'd know who
to turn to with our burning questions about what constiturtes as selling
out, why making fun of others is bad, and how stupid everyone else is.

So would the real, true, and honest-to-God expert on the matter of all
things BEn Folds Five please stand up, because I'm sick of all these damn
imposters putting their opinions on us.

Hello! A while back, I was sent a copy of the sheet music from a lister by the
name of (I believe) Scott. I was going to send him a copy of a CD in exchange
for this, but before I could, my mother threw out the envelope with his
address on it! Scott, if you're out there and recognize this, just send me a
private email that tells me which CD I was going dub for you, and your address
as well, of course, and it will be in the mail the next day. Thanks.

Hi Fivers.
In giving props to the 550 weasels, I sadly neglected the
closer-to-home weasels who also deserve many accolades in getting the
bus on the road and keeping it from going in the ditch - Al Wolmark and
the kids at what seems to be CEC (which in my country appropriately
stands for Canada Employment Centre). The immediate management has done
a great job when others could've folded in the shadow of the big fat
label. (as they so often do in Canada)
Also thanks for the Emaline lyrics, and will people quit forgetting to
delete digests in posting replies? DAMN IT! These things are fat enough!
Use the damn post link at the bottom of the digest that Frank has so
cleverly provided.

Peace,
Valerie

 Hi folks,

I haven't seen this mentioned here yet (but I often skim the digest), and
I might be mistaken, but I thought I heard that BFF will be on WXPN's
'World Cafe' on Friday at 3pm EST. WXPN is a fantastic station out of
UPenn in Philly, and World Cafe is syndicated nationally (see
http://www.wxpn.org or http://www.pri.org for details.) Enjoy, and
corrections welcome.

its not nonsense, people. CEC is the name of BFF's management company.
Look in the liner notes for further info. Alan Wolmack works for
CEC...hence the progression from his name to CEC. Glad to have settles that.

No, it's right -- bass as in bass voices, and vocal percussion. I'm
in a group here at Penn and do a majority of the percussion. It may
seem a little strange the first time you hear it, and I look really
funny, but it comes out somewhat realistically. We're doing Brick and
Battle this semester -- someone else in the group mentioned Stephen's, and
evidently it comes off really well.

Subject: Vinyl and cover songs

Alright then, this whole vinyl question of the problems of getting it. I
saw that CDNow has both albums in vinyl and for the time being they are
on sale less then $10 before shipping and handling, I believe .

COVERS:
"Young Americans" - David Bowie
"something i can never have" - nine inch nails
"Instant Karma!" - John Lennon
"Personal Jesus" - Depeche Mode
"Mirror In The Bathroom" - The English Beat
"just" - Radiohead
"Firefly Child" - The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
"The 13th" - The Cure
"Hungry Like The Wolf" - Duran Duran
"Flabbergasted" or "Classic Hoagie" - Stretch Armstrong
"Twelve Caged Tigers" or "Art School Girl" - Stone Temple Pilots

Last thing, what bands or artists would you like to see cover a song by
our very own boys and which song?
I've gotta couple ideas:
Poe - "Video" or "Smoke"
The Cure - "Underground"
nine inch nails - "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces"
I could go on but for sake of space I'll stop now.

Subject: My BF5 fakebooks finally online / The Symantics

Hi gang.
My BF5 fakebooks (_WAEA_ is *still* incomplete sad to say) are
now also online at my homepage:
http://www.afn.org/~afn61842/index.html
The page also includes my fakebooks for a couple Cardigans albums if
anyone wants to learn some really nice jazz chords. I hate to be a jerk
about it, but please don't send 1.0E6 requests asking me to teach you how
to read them (though I don't mind giving pointers on a good piano/guitar
voicing on a particular chord or whatever). Just open them up in Times
New Roman 12pt and everything should line up fine with chords above
lyrics. At random I've included some basslines within the chords. For
example: the verse to "Kate" I might have as (can't remember):
F /G#/A/C /D/F (x2) Gm /A/Bb/D /E/F (x2) etc...
If you don't know chord theory at all I'd suggest picking a little book
called "Music Theory Made Easy" by David Harp. It's at least an
excellent beginning.
Speaking of symantics, does anyone remember the band of the same
name that was discussed here a *long* time ago? They might've had
something to do with friends/relatives of BF5, but I'm not sure. The
local Gainesville band PopCanon used to have that name, but they were
forced to change it (probably due to the band I'm trying to find out
about!)

BUT, someone help me, i have a crisis. Me and my mate Helen lurve ..Fanny
Packs to bits, we always listen to it on the bus and practically wet

Anyway, Helen always says, "Sh*t JAZZ cool...." !!!!!! ???!!!!
so, how do i break it to her what it really is, without making her feel any
embarrassment (cos i'm that kind of a sensitive friend!) ?

U.K PEOPLE: I think Brick is released in the 24th, uh goddamn, that's next
monday! U.S PEOPLE: What are all the b-sides??

i am on my way to mastering Philosophy.... i saw someone wearing a BFF W&EA
t-shirt yesterday!! WHILE i was listening to Fanny Packs!! (that's a BIG
thing, cos it wasn't the one you can get in HMV, my mate's got that one).

Well, i dunno if there's anything new with the Pearl Jam "Whine our lives

take like 50% of the ticket price (not including the "service" charge) and
don't even tell you about it? It's a monopoly, and it's a rip off.

Usually, i won't even go to shows that are run by ticketmaster. The ska shows
here (mainly what i go to) don't go through ticketmaster, except on the rare
occasional band that they do.. in those cases, i don't go. I refuse to.
