A question for Sarah:
>First off, I remembered to grab my WAEA cd for my friend Mark to
>borrow. So here I am sitting in first hour Bio and its soooo boring. So
I >whip out the cd and ask my teacher to put it in to wake me up some.
>This teacher, who usally puts in elevator music for us to work to, put
>it in.
What did your teacher think about "Song for the dumped?" That's some
good studying music. heh heh heh.
Also, here's an excrutiatingly painful memory from my last BFF concert:
So to give some exposition, I love Darren Jessee. But I've never seen
him in the daylight, only in dark clubs on stage. So it was Feb.8 in
L.A and I was walking away from the Palace (where the concert was) to go
down Hollywood Blvd. or whatever. Anyway, I see this semi-attractive
guy walking towards us and I noticed that he somewhat looked like
Darren. So I turned to my friend and said: " wouldn't it be
funny if that was darren?" and I took out the tape case from my bag and
looked at the picture of Darren and then the guy who was about five feet
away from me. I decided it wasn't him, just some Roadie... but I was
staring and he kinda smiled... and then I started laughing because I
looked like such a fool. I walked on not caring anymore... then the
moment came. I was in the front row... and the band walks out in the
dark. The lights come up, and there he is: the same guy who I had
passed earlier, the "roadie" was in fact Darren Jesse. It hurt. But
the pain was somewht aleived when Ben stripped down to his boxers later
in the show. Everytime I told someone how the concert was, I'd get this
image of Darren walking away from me...(sigh)... there's always next
time.
thanks for the space,
Sarah m.

hello. i'm new, by the way. does anyone know who mitchell lane is? i
heard ben on loveline, and he talked about a lot of the people in his
songs, like summer burkes, but not mitchell lane. or is it a lane, as in
street or avenue? i love that song, and, for some reason, i particularly
love when he sings the word "amiss". also, does anyone else think that the
ska remix of kate is practically the same as the album version?
here's an inane question that i'd, nevertheless, like answered - how many
of you say/write bff, and how many say/write bf5?

Today our campus paper, the DTH, published its annual readers' poll called
Carolina's Finest, and under Arts & Entertainment here's what I found:
Best Up & Coming Artist: Ben Folds Five
Recently, the national music scene has become privy to a little band from
Chapel Hill. Ben Folds Five's "Brick" has been receiving generous air
play, and the video is played on MTV often as well. But it is here in the
Southern Part of Heaven where they are heard the most. After playing to a
sold out Cat's Cradle last November, local audiences and fans are waiting
for their good old boys to return. If they do, maybe they will come back
soon for yet another sold-out concert.
Favorite Local Group: Ben Folds Five
Just because Ben Folds Five has won this category doesn't mean they
haven't arrived in the spotlight, because they have. They are merely
getting bigger. With their self-titled debut, the guys with the piano and
the deep lyrics are still scoring hordes of fans, both in Chapel Hill
where they got their start as well as across the country. With elements
of rock, indie-pop, the influence of the piano, catchy lyrics with
heartfelt emotion and youthful angst--not to mention the desirable feel of
a small town band--Ben Folds Five has nowhere to go except up.
Okay, I don't know about the self-titled, sounds like a recycled piece,
but hey, the point is that the boys got a nifty page all to themselves
with a picuture and everything!

A good amount of discussion in the past and recently has been made about
the meaning of BFF's songs. While the discussion is intresting at times
many people feel the need to get offensive at questions where there are
strongly held beliefs, (Brick). I may be alone or off my own subject but
there is no need to be offensive. Most artists of talent write about
personal subjects, and Ben Folds does have talent. The song has a deep
personal meaning to the writer and is then put out for the general public.
I feel that any interperation about the song from that point on becomes
personal to the listener. If the song is about abortion but can be seen
as cancer, whatever. Let it stand. If someone wants to know the meaning
that the artist has attached to the song, inform them and move on. While
I have been told that Eddie Walker is about an amnesic(?) person, I like
to think of the song as someone watching others reflect on his life at a
wake, funeral, wherever, after his passing. I have a personal motive
behind this. Ben Wrote the song how he wanted it and now I have my
meaning. Just a thought from someone with his own philosophy.

I think it is just Wonder*folds* that the BF5 Webring is at the #22 spot at
Webring world. What disturbs me is that the Drum Tab ring is 2 spots higher
at #20.
Brick slowly drowns to #12 in the Billboard charts.....
....but WAEA spurts back 6 spots to # 47.
What else......hmmmm.....
In a recent post-game interview, M. Jordan said he could identify with Ben
Folds Five's song 'one angry drawf," as he was also tormented in school.
He also mentioned after retirement he would like to meet Folds and possibly
team up with him in the studio for a song or two. Jordan played bball in
North Carolina and remembered seeing Folds play in a bar a few years
back. Jordan commented, "but that lanky rock boy better know how to play
golf!" When asked if Jordan liked other Folds songs, he replied, "yeah,
those boys know how to get jiggy with it."
