Subject: i want rare ben folds five songs
hey!!! i was wondering if anyone on this here list has "never leaving
silver street" and/or "lonely". i want to trade, i have pretty much
everything else (except "air", i'm waiting to buy that cd used, that
jamiroquai song is awesome by the way), and if you have those 2 songs you
probably have everything i have to (from what i understand these songs are
pretty hard to come by, there was this one guy who was supposed to make me
copies of these songs a long time ago, but his car started on fire or blew
up or was stolen or something and all his bf5 tapes were in it). if you
know of any other songs that i might not have...i.e. new songs that
they've been playing live that you have on tape, i would trade for those
to. i have a pantload of radiohead stuff (including 2 songs from when
they weren't even called radiohead, and while i'm talking about radiohead,
i'm looking for the other 2 songs they recorded when they weren't called
radiohead, i have "philipa chicken" and "nothing touches me" plus theres a
lot of new songs they've been playing live that i would like), i also have
a ton of nirvana stuff from back in the day...i have at least one version
of every song they've ever recorded in any form whatsoever, and that's my
goal with radiohead (i'm only 2 songs away according to my sources) and
ben fold's five (i might be only 2 songs away but they're always coming
out with new stuff....as is radiohead). well i have a lot of other stuff
too (vic chesnutt, a lot of hayden stuff, most of the pavement stuff, some
jawbox, the new burning airlines 7" (so good!), ect.) so don't hesitate to
ask...i could send you a blank tape or i could make you a mix tape or
something....let me know...

Hi y'all,
With fellow list-vet Michael Bluejay leaving the Armchair, I should
leave as well. I miss the time when there were more posts on BFF music
and insights on their development as a band.
However, I have met some good friends from this list, and I certainly
thank Frank Maynard for giving me some place to turn to when I really
got fired up by BFF a few years ago, and needed an outlet for info and
gushing. Well, I'm still fired up by BFF! That won't change.

hey, all:
i don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there's a feature
article with robert sledge in this month's BASS PLAYER magazine, which
is usually a magazine i'm not too impressed by and won't purchase, but
lucally i found the article online:

apparently there's also an ad w/ rob endorsing some bass manufacturer or
another. might be worth checking out the newsstand just to see it...
on the sessions performance: did it seem to anyone that they were a
little off? i mean, i've noticed everytime they play on tv, they seem a
bit nervous, and not as tight as they are at other points. my refrence
was their performance at Lupo's in Providence, RI, (which i guess is one
of their favorite places to play, even though they haven't been back
here in a while) where they recorded The Ultimate Sacrifice as it
appears on NBP (and featured Ben standing on his piano, singing his ass
off, with his pants around his ankles at one point) which was an amazing
show.
i kind of feel they can be a little moody about the situation they're
performing in. for example, i caught them at the Roxy in boston last
year (which is a terribly horrible place to see a show; it's basically a
snooty dance club that puts on shows before the dance club opens in
order to get more money. i'll spare you all my bitchyness on that
subject, though) and from what i gathered, they were in a bad mood: a.
they slagged on boston. (nice to be back here in Boston, we're happily
suprised that no fights have broken out yet) and b. they slagged on the
club: we'd like to thank the people at the roxy for finally letting us
back in to do our show. (apparently it's a common occurance for a band
to show up in the afternoon, set up their gear and soundcheck, and then
go away for a couple hours to chill, only to find when they come back
that the dumb-ass door person doesn't believe they're actually the band
and won't let them back in..) so I took from all THIS that they didn't
like it there, and IMHO, their performance suffered on the first four or
so songs (but took off after); rhythmically they were pretty sloppy, and
some of the harmonies (that are SO crucial to their songs) were off at
times. anyone else agree or disagree about the whole 'moody; thing? keep
in mind that i'm also a musician, and some of us can be anal about these
things at times...
but back to the sessions show: that interviewer/host dude is a tool. i
esp. enjoyed the part where beck started playing with his head (as beck
loves to do to interviewers) and the guy was a little taken aback, but
decided the best way to go about it was to play it straight and take it
seriously. he looked so dumb!
alright, enough waste of bandwidth,

ps. thumbs down to whoever posted that damn infomercial. serious breach
of net ethics. yeah, you saved paper, but that's no justification for
bugging us with non-relevant-to-the-list-mass-propaganda. next time,
don't waste the paper OR the bandwidth. sending stuff like that wastes
electricity, lots of hard drive space, and all of our time, and is
obviously out of place.

Subject: Ft Wayne and crowd behavior
Warning: This post contains additional comments re: concert crowds so
skip to the next post if you aren't interested. However, there is a
Ft Wayne set list at the end.
Go figure....You're standing on the floor at an arena with 5000 people
that are moshing, crowd surfing and ripping women's tops off during
the bands preceding Ben Folds Five and then Ben Folds Five starts
playing and people get pissed off cause you're dancing and having a
good time during the boys kick-ass performance.
Some guy behind us actually had to nerve to ask us to watch our arms
when we were dancing! So I guess it's okay to shove, push and spit at
a concert but for GODS SAKE DON"T TRY TO DANCE!
This was at the Ft Wayne show on Friday. But despite the crowd, the
band was great and Ben even threw in "The Ultimate Sacrifice" for our
listening pleasure. (He said it was a single off their upcoming
album, if it ever got done...what a funny guy.)
So sure the crowd sucked but like someone previously posted, don't
fixate on it or it will totally destroy the experience.
Oh, and a word of advice...if you're a female, don't crowd surf at a
Ft Wayne big arena show or you'll get you're shirt ripped off and have
to walk out topless.

I think I missed some but it was a long weekend. No encore cause it
was a festival with one stage and limited playing time but they played
for over an hour and it was well worth putting up with such an insane
crowd.
One more thing...after Friday's show I have a whole new appreciation
for Ben Folds Five Fans....new or old, young or short, it doesn't
matter.....we rock. And I'd rather be in an arena with 5000 Ben Folds
Five fans any day.

Subject: Ben Folds Five memorial day weekend (*long*)
To sum it up in 1 word. Incredible. (That's the summary, the rest is long, so
skip it if you want)
This was my 13th, 14th, and 15th time seeing the boys, and it was very nice to
say the least. What did I learn this weekend? That if your a girl at the World
Music Theater, to go to the guy security guards, they won't check your ticket,
and you can get up there with people who DO have tickets to that section. I
also learned that most people at festivals sucked. During the whole BF5 set at
Chicago there were about 15 people standing up. (That I could see) I also
learned that my mom really doesn't love me, she left me about 20 times this
weekend.. we're usually always together. (She went backstage, and left me
waiting for her :P)
Fort Wayne was the first show of the weekend. My mom posted about it though (I
think). The crowd was disgusting. There was a certain section on the floor
where these guys would rip off every girl's shirt that passed by. It was
awful. They were very together musically though. Ultimate Sacrifice was very
nice addition though.
Chicago was fun. LOTS of fun. Sandi's Fair dance was the best part of the day.
Amazing what people come up with on long car trips down to Texas. Maybe the
Fair dance will catch on, and it will become as popular as pogoing. Who knows,
wishful thinking I guess.
Speaking of pogoing (that's not a real word is it?). That's my new way of
picking out fans. True fans pogo during Fair. That's that.
Minneapolis was well.. muddy. Maybe it was the lack of sleep, but I thought
that it wasn't a very good show. It was dirty, and awful. I think I talked to
Ben at the Minneapolis show more than I've talked to him at all the other
shows combined. It was interesting.
Thanks are due to: The guy in Fort Wayne that got my mom something to drink.
The guy in Fort Wayne who opened the door for us. The guy in Fort Wayne who
gave us the Godzilla toy. (Only 3 nice people in Fort Wayne, I think) The
Darren Jessee Seven, Joe, Leo, Doug, and Scott (for scaring the crap out of
me). Hannah, even though I didn't even get to talk to her, I was the missing
link of the Sandi group. And finally the people at the Chicago airport that
gave us free pizza.
VERY fun weekend, to say the least. It really (f)rocked.
Also.. is Ben Folds Five headling the Raliegh show? This could be the deciding
factor of us going or not. If they are, or not, are the tickets sold out? Any
info would be appreciated, e-mail me privately.

How many of you, my fellow armchairers, were pissed at seeing a
humongous SPAM on the armchair of late? I was severly appaled that this
would appear on such a fine mailing list as the Magical Armchair.
Anyways, I can only hope this doesn't happen in the future...
On to other matters though, I was severly depressed a few short months
ago when I realized that the boys weren't coming to my hometown, Salt
Lake City, on their current tour. The last time they came through was
on HORDE, and I MISSED seeing them. I was so pissed. I have been having
a hard time fending off the Brickheads in Utah, 'cause I swear I've
gotta be one of the lone fans in this state (I'd appreciate hearing from
other fans around here, if there are any). Also, if there are some,
they can find the Brick single with the Japanese Song for the Dumped at
the Wherehouse in Bountiful. Last I checked, there was a huge stack of
them in the singles section.
Abd for those of you outside the state of Utah, I envy you SO VERY
MUCH!!! If someone would like to let me know where I can get my hands
on the BFF self titled song book or any posters and the like, e mail me.
