Fellow Chairers:
Recently one of us (not me) posted the songs BF5 played at the concert
he/she went to (sorry, y'all I don't remember who it was). It was posted that
the beginning of "Underground" was not played, followed by "why?"
As a response, someone posted that the band is getting pissed off about
people screaming "Who the fuck are you?" after the line "I'm sure you don't
remember me."
Well, what do I have to say about that? LIGHTEN UP, GUYS!!!!
If people are screaming stuff that they heard on NBP, that means people are
buying the merchandise. People also bought their tix to the show.
Considering all the money that was spent on BF5 stuff by the fans, I think it
wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Ben and the Boys to get a little pissed
off at the crowd if we "chant" during a concert.
I mean, we pay to get in there, we should get what we want out of the deal.

I don't recall if this was covered, but all Blockbuster Music stores are
previewing the Godzilla soundtrack from now until Monday, and have a
copy to hear on their "listening center." Some of you might want to
check it out. Don't recall their price on the soundtrack, but it's at
least you can hear the song early.

This is amazing! almost 1000 of these e-mails have been sent out. As one of
the VERY VERY early (before it was NAMED "Magical Armchair") subscribers to
this list, I am very heartened that this trio (give or take a string quartet)
has taken off as they have. Their sound is unique regardless of who you
compare them to (Joe Jackson et al.) Having met some other subscribers while
in line to see them in Central Park and at Washington's 9:30 club, and having
received e-mails regarding my attempt at transcribing Jackson Cannery for
guitar (somehow it ended up in the Online Guitar Archive), I can say that us
BFF fans are almost like a family (not yet like Parrot-Heads but we can work
on it!) and its great to see so many out there love the sound and are not just
"brick-heads"
To Ben and the rest of the trio, Mr. Maynard all the other fans, we owe all of
you a debt of gratitude for creating this unique community.

1. I'll be working on the International Fan page real soon. I've got a ton
of new entries for the list, but have been neglecting it cuz of school.
I'll put up a new post when it's been updated, and hopefully everyone will
check it out. In the meantime, i'll once again invite everyone who's NOT
from the US to submit their name to the list so international BFF
networking can continue! (BTW we've got 2 fans from Japan and one from
Singapore now! how cool is that?)
you can find it at:
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Backstage/6814/fans.html
2. I'm ready to start trading heavily again. I've got a pretty good-looking
list, and i just recieved a kind of "rare" show that i don't see on many
lists:
10-22-97 Carefree Theater, West Palm Beach FL (not on my list yet)
If anyone wants to trade, i'm open for 2:1 and lots of non-BFF things.
check out my list at:
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Backstage/6814
4. If you haven't checked out THE SHRUBBERY yet, you should go there now.
We're still taking submissions for June. I thank the few people from this
list who have written to me about their interest and urge anyone who'd like
to write for us to do so! Thanks to Luke Wilson, he'll be in the June issue
with an article that talks about BFF!

ok so yeah, I think that the boys are asthetically pleasing and I do gush over
them when I see them live, but what the hell is up with the fashion updates in
reviews. I understand that ben likes to sing about roberts pretty shirts, so
thats ok...but i really dont need to spend 20 minutes scanning reviews that
consist of every siingle item that the boys were wearing....i dont care!!
please leave out comments such as
<<Fashion update: Ben - white long sleeved retro "chain
link fence/chicken wire" maroon patterned shirt, olive green pants, dr.
marten-esque boots>>
oh, and how could i forget
<<robert - denim heather blue t-shirt with Chicago multiple
times in multiple fonts in navy, navy collar and sleeve rings, green pants
like Ben's>>
I geuss that there are people who think they need to know this crap, but could
you please not put it in with a common review??? I cant remember the last
time someone came into the music store i work in to purchase ben folds five
becuase of their keen fashion sense.
Im sure that Im gonna get blasted for this post..so ill say leave me alone in
advance..im entitled to my opinion.

Subject: Demos
I was curious to know what are the Armchair readers' favorite Ben Folds Five
demos or unreleased tracks. Some of their demos are so wonderful, I can't
imagine why they were not included on any of the albums, or at least B-sides.
For example, I think that "Half Asleep" is probably one of the best Ben Folds
Five songs of all time. It reminds me of the type of song that would be in a
Broadway musical. (I have seen other readers express the same sentiment about
the song "Steven's Last night in Town" - wouldn't Ben write a killer musical?)
I also like Half Asleep because it seems to convey some of the frustration Ben
might have felt when they were struggling musicians: "the band would play, I'd
sing my heart out to a drunken crowd, it didn't mean a thing." And there is
one part where he sings, "like everything else, I did it halfway." That part
reminds me of the interview in CMJ where Ben says that Ben Folds Five was the
first thing that he's ever stuck to in his life, and how at times he wanted to
quit the band more than anything. The song just really strikes me as a very
personal view into his life at the time.
I also think "Kalamazoo," "Protection," and "Rocky" are great. How did "The
Ultimate Sacrifice" make it on to Naked Baby Photos and none of these did? It
almost makes me feel sorry for the fans who are not on the Armchair and do not
have access to bootleg demos. They're really missing out!

As most of you know already, BFF will be playing the Tabernacle in Atlanta
on Sunday, June 14. Well, I as well as all of the rest of the members on
the Armchair that met in Nashville would like to meet up with some more of
you cool people who are subscribers to the Magical Armchair mailing list
that weekend. Kim has been ever so kind and is opening up her house to
fellow Armchair members to crash at for the weekend. So if you need a place
to stay, I don't think it will be a problem just be sure to email me and
let me know if you are interested in crashing with us. Anyways, we would
like to know who is interested in meeting up. And if you are interested, we
would like to schedule a place to meet at where it is convenient for
everyone to get to. Our first ideas is a picnic in Piedmont Park that
morning/afternoon before the show. If you have another idea, email us.
Anyways, I think it will be lots of fun and am looking forward to meeting
some more cool people from the Armchair. Email me at noctum@usa.net or us
at bffirc@usa.net. Make sure if you need a place to stay to state that you
need that in the email. Anyways, looking forward to meeting some of you and
attending church that night at the Tabernacle!!!
Sanders
P.S.-
Check out http://bffirc.home.pages.de, and see some pictures from the
Nashville meet-n-greet as well as some stories, etc. Also, be sure to check
out the news section at that site.
