Hey everyone,
Just wanted to spread a little "BFF rookie" enthusiasm throughout the list--
I've only been a fan for a year or so, but I'm finally going to see my first
BFF show at Starlake in PA tonight! Elliot Smith's opening and Beck's along
for the ride, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm just so *wired* to see
the boys play live for the first time! If anyone plans on taping the show,
please contact me-- I don't have the means to do so myself, and I'd love a
copy...

Rockford Files was this old TV show where James Gardner <?> played a
private investigator. You can catch in on some B cable channels that
play old TV shows.
Dave Della Bitta
They play the rockford files on normal tv here in Az... I personally don't
care for the show, but one of my roommates used to watch it every morning,
and drove me insane! but I drove him insane right back, by singing battle
pretty much the whole time it was on, because it would get stuck in my
head! :)

JEESH.
Hello? This is EXACTLY why the RF (maillist) was developed and named
the way it was (read=because we understand old school 70's-80's crap).
#1 - James Garner was Jim Rockford
#2 - It was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell
#3 - There are 113 episodes
#4 - It ran from 1974-1980 (with a show in 1995)
It is a *classic* among TV detective drama/comedy shows. Who can forget
Angel?!
I am not knocking ANYONE for not knowing this. Really, I'm not. BUT.
Please don't attempt to answer something you are clueless about. Gives me
a reason to post. An I know how much you all hate that.
Bentent you ask? The techno version of Brick sucks. Bad.

Oh & it was James Garner in Rockford Files (another Okie like myself!),

Hey Everyone....
I've been reading and observing for around a year or so, and I've been a huge
fan for a little longer than that. I'm really posting to discuss a possible
trade, but first I'd like to offer my opinions on the "real fan" vs.
"brickhead" debate.
For the most part, I think it's ridiculous, but understandable. I was lucky
enough to get into BF5 before Brick. I was playing piano for a three peace
band for a school assembly, and commented to the bass player about how full we
sounded with just piano, bass, and drums. He said I may be interested in this
band, gave me WAEA, and the rest is history. (BTW, my first favorite songs
were the slower ones, Selfless and Smoke, and then I started to get into the
faster ones.) Regardless, though, I "found" BF5 later than many of you. I
can't explain my jealousy when I hear people's stories about seeing them in
small venues in 95 or 96. But to an extent my experiences were similar...I
was in the front row at both the Supper Club and Hammerstein shows in NYC, and
at least the first one was before Brick spawned a new fan base.
Anyway, I'm just rambling on now, but I feel that anyone can be a true fan.
I'm sick of people saying "I have 3 albums, 4 imports, 5 million MP3's, and an
autographed poster, so I must be a bigger fan than you." Many of the biggest
fans have probably never been to a concert, have just the 3 albums, and may be
so computer-illiterate that they have no idea that the Armchair even exists.
But the music means something to them, it's something they live for. I will
sit for hours trying to play Ben's stuff on the piano, and sometimes I'm even
successful (hey, I just got the entire intro to Philosophy). And when I'm
doing it, I'm kind of "removed," and I get the (obviously false) feeling that
this is all I ever have to do. If someone just discovered BF5 say, 3 or 4
months ago (and probably because of Brick) but gets the same joy that I do,
are they a "worse" fan in any way? Of course not. At the Hammerstein show in
February, a girl standing by me said "This is the only song I know..." when
Brick came on. It seemed kind of sad to me at first, and I was actually
annoyed, but chances are that by now, this girl has been exposed to all of
BF5. Possibly she was dragged to the show by a friend, only agreeing to go
because she like Brick. And at that time, there's no way she could have been
considered a BF5 fan, just a Brick fan. And what's wrong with that?
I know what it feels like to see "our" band get bigger and bigger...kind of
like we're losing something that was close to us. Now the shows are larger,
much less personal. But the enthusiasm is still there, and if you think that
your "rank" as a fan is determined by how many times you've met Ben after a
show, then you're wrong. A year ago, if someone said that they were a fan,
you knew it was true. Now, you kind of have to check ("Wait, you mean you
really like them, or you just know Brick?"). But instead of scorning the
"Brickheads," lend them a copy of WAEA, and let them experience the "real"
BF5. If my friend wasn't nice enough to do it, I would never be here, and
chances are, many of you wouldn't be either.
Now, let me apologize for taking so much space, and congratulate anyone who
has actually made it this far....(I didn't expect that to take so long).
I am desperate for a copy (or a photocopy) of the S/T songbook. It's been out
of stock forever from the website, and I've kind of reached a plateau when it
comes to figuring out the stuff for myself. This is my offer: I have no
bootlegs, but I do have a recordable CD drive, capable of producing wonderful
mix CD's. I can put on anything from the albums, plus a couple singles I
have, as well as any MP3's you send me. The only thing is that the total time
has to be around 73 minutes or so. You give me a list of songs, or email me
the MP3's you want on there, and I will make you the CD. You send me a
photocopy of the song book, I send the CD. Easy enough? I'll also consider
trades for Bootlegs, but only very high quality ones (preferably from DAT).
Due to the work in making the CD, I'd like to trade 1 CD for 2 tapes. I'm
particularly looking for tapes from the two recent NYC shows I mentioned
above. Please email me if interested. My email address is BHanulak@aol.com.
Sorry again for being so long, but I've had a lot to say over the past year
and finally got to say it.

This will make me feel about 950 years old, but I have to say: Patrick Duffy
or Burt Reynolds or Tom Selleck?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It was James Garner, and IT
WASN'T CHEESY!!! And IT DIDN'T BOMB OUT!!!! And it lasted LONGER THAN 3
YEARS!!!!
And I'm NOT REALLY PISSED!!! So DON'T FLAME ME!!!!
I just felt the twinge of a generation gap when I read that, that's all.

I saw Ben Folds Five for the first time about 2 weeks ago at a 14 band show put
on by a local radio station in Raleigh, NC. They were incredible. I have
never been more impressed with anything in my life. I had a chance to go see
Chuck Fold's band Snuzz earlier that week at the Brewery but I missed it :(
Any one know when BFF will be coming back to Raleigh?
