A WORD FROM THE LISTOWNER
It seems that the off-topic chatter has gone way beyond the

MAJORDOMO DOESN'T LIKE IT EITHER
I started to think that Majordomo was on strike because of the off

I can't seem to access the FAQ's for some reason, and I know I'm going
to get my ass handed to me for asking this but....what's next for BF5?
I know they're on tour (Europe, Australia, Japan), but after that, is it
back to the studio? I went to the SPAC show last weekend and would have
to agree with everyone's observation that these guys seem road weary,
although they still upstaged Beck. Beck has a good stage presence, but
his show was, word for word, the same as the HORDE festival the previous
year. With the carton of milk being the exception. But, I'm eagerly
anticipating a BF5 show, where they are well rested and excited to be
touring again, complete with the 3 person string section they brought to
HORDE. I would like to see them headlining, although..."Hopes are but
the dreams of those who wake." I hope that's not true in this case.

......

It's good to see the air pianists coming out of the closet. Air piano
is for amateurs....Air piano and air melodica...not bad.
I, however, have taken to playing air piano, air violin, air clarinet,
and air trumpet when listening to Steven's Last Night in Town. Truly a
sight to behold...until the convulsions take over, and I'm wheeled into
the closest white padded cell.

......

Sorry for the stupid post. It's about 140° C in my dwelling right
now, and I'm struggling with the thought process. I'd swear a camel
just walked down my hall and threw a Klondike Bar at me.....

Later,
Rusty

hey kids!

I'm a newbie -- i'll say that right off-- but not any less in love
with the band.
(this is probably redundant but i'll give my two cents) finally the
pittsburgh show happened and i was so happy. even though they played
for less than an our it was basically a consensus in the burgh that
BF5 were so much better than beck...many said it had to do with the
sound quality but we all know that ben and the boys just kept on
kickin butt the whole time like they usually do. personally i was so
disappointed that they didn't play UNDERGROUND because that was the
song that made me fall in love with the band, but they really really
made the best of their short time. Yes, ben abused the piano. Yes, he
did pelvic thrusts and swung the mike around. Yes, sledge smoked
through most of it and was wearing his watch. Yes, darren looked
mighty hot.
all i can say is I LOVE THIS BAND and i love all of you for luvin it
too.
keep on keepin on.
fanny packs will always rule.

Hello!
I'm new at this whole mailing list thing and I'm sort of new with Ben Folds Five as well. Yes I am one of those people who heard of them thanks to my local radio station who recently started playing brick, but I am not a poseur!! Thanks to the song Brick I was able to get more familiar with other songs and albums so I am very grateful for that...any way could some one out there please let me know what the song Brick is about? I heard something about how it was based on someone's abortion or something. I don't know if that is true so I would be very happy if someone could e-mail me telling me what its about! Thanks!!
P.S. Is any one on this list from Canada?

What's up all,

Just got back from the Tabernacle show in atlanta,
and it kicked ass..i'll get the set list down later,
but i just rocked to much!!!
Snuzz played before with Chuck and the gang. After
the show i talked with Chuck for about 15 minutes or
so and got him to sign my ticket. He wrote in
Snuzz..but he's cool..then talked to Ben for a while
and got a pic with him and he signed my W&EA cover,
but it disappointed me that Darren, and Robert didn't
come out. They may have but had to catch the train
before it stopped. But overall the best concert
ever...word it up.

this bff list has been massively whittled down, i used to get 4 digests
a night, now it's like one every two days? what happened were a lot of
people kicked off?
anyway, bff *stuff* :
about emaline being released, i haven't heard anything though i will be
crazy-happy when/if it is. right now, on Kiss, the lamo station of our
state, has those little commercials where they list the bands in a
really pseudo-cheesy radio voice: shania twain, paula cole, BEN folds
five (they accent the ben), all here on KISS one oh six point one.
but they don't play bff anymore, the last time i heard brick on that
station was a month ago (not that i'm complaining), anyway,
just thought i'd add this, bff is still there, but they're not actually
"there"

Subject: Pointless Concert Review: #35 In A Series

Hello Armchair,
(melodramatically) My faith in Ben Folds Five has been restored.
I guess all the concert posts had scared me: "Too crowded!" "The crowd
sucked!" "They were crowd surfing during SC&C!" "The teenage girls
behind me kept screaming how much they love Ben!" Well, I'm not sure if
Southerners are just cooler than the rest of y'all (What am I thinking?
Of course we are...) or if I got lucky, but the crowd at the Atlanta
Tabernacle show rocked.
You want examples? Here ya go: Lots of teenagers, lots of little
girls, but precious little screaming considering. (And a great view of
the piano... Thanks short people!!) Sing-alongs only in a general sense
(i.e. the crowd singing as one, NOT one singing as loud as a whole
crowd), good dancing considering the crowded conditions down front, and
NO MOSHING AT ALL. Few trendy fans, judging by the fact that everyone
around me was mouthing the lyrics to every song. And (big drumroll) the
opening of "Brick" received about HALF the applause (at best) of
"Philosophy." Or "OAD." Or even "Emaline." The boys don't talk much
between songs like they used to, but they still play like men possessed.
And did I mention the Tabernacle is a GREAT venue? Kinda like the Fox
Theatre, only smaller and funkier.
And how 'bout this setlist? Throw in "Summer" and maybe "Video Killed
The Radio Star" (nostalgic sigh) and it'd be damn near perfect:
- ---WARNING: MAY NOT BE IN EXACT ORDER!! GIVE A GUY A BREAK!---
Fair
BOWCCL
Air
Emaline
Philosophy
The Last Polka
Selfless Cold & Composed
Steven's Last Night In Town
Evaporated (!)
Brick
Alice Childress
She Don't Use Jelly
One Angry Dwarf
Underground (no opening)
Julianne
Song For The Dumped
Black Sabbath/metal orgy closing

encore:
Boxing
Uncle Walter

Wow. I hadn't seen the boys in almost 2 years and they didn't let me
down. Aside from a soundman who wanted to deafen us for the first 30
minutes (he succeeded), this was every bit as good a gig as their old,
intimate club shows. I haven't spent $25 on a show in over a year (fuck
you Ticketmaster) and this was worth every penny and then some. Did I
mention that opening act Snuzz (Chuck Folds, Eddie Walker, and Snuzz
Uzzell) ROCKED SERIOUS ASS??! Everyone must buy their CD. Email 'em if
you don't have a copy. (snuzz@usa.net)
Shout-outs: Jessica, thanks again for the tix, I owe ya. Chuck, good
to see ya again... What's up with you and Snuzz switching facial hair?
Ha ha ha, I will send mail, I promise. Eddie and Snuzz, sorry I didn't
hook up with y'all afterwards. Big place, lotsa people, you understand.
Pity no "Frog," but "Amplify" rocked, and "Rocker Tommy Lee" atoned for
all song omissions. Atlanta, I miss you still. Ben, Darren, & Jesse,
thanks for keeping it real. Love, an O.G.

Take care everyone,
rICH

Subject: Ben in Atlanta

Had a totally unfathomably amazing Ben Folds experience last night in Atlanta.

Went down to the ol' church-turned-concert venue. Had a couple drinks in the parking lot, went in and found spots dead center, about 10 people back from the stage. Choice viewing area. The opening band was fairly good. Glad to have them be bearable, compared to previous openers. BF5 came out, began rocking the house. The crowd was lame. Very few real fans there, the ones that were weren't loud or excited. Get your hands in the air, people. The fans got louder as the night went on. After a rousing rendition of "She don't use jelly" Ben began to tell us about the origins of the next song. Loving the musical stylings of bassist Robert Sledge, I scream, "Sledge Rocks!" A statement to be immediately repeated by Ben himself, with a slight bow of recognition from Sledge, with a sideways grin.
Quite proud of myself for finding a comment the band agreed to, I continued to enjoy the show with my friends. The band rocked the stage hard. Never seeming "tired" as has been previously described by concert goers. The youngish crowd seemed tired from being up past their bed time, but got further into the groove as the show got louder and later.
Overcome with excitement and enjoyment of my favorite band kicking it strong, I rushed to the front of the stage as soon as "Song for the Dumped" came on. Upon the second chorus, I pulled off my Adidas Soccer T-shirt, tied the end in a knot, and flung it at Ben when he requested, "?give me back my black T-shirt.." Not a unique idea, but one completely spontaneous and heartfelt. As the song was winding down, Ben got up from his piano, picked up a shirt, untied a knot in a shirt, then began to strip himself of his own shirt. He belly danced and grooved to his music, took off his shirt and tossed it back stage. He then? PUT ON MY T-SHIRT!! Fans around me started screaming at me, that's your shirt! I was jumping, yelling, excited. Ben wearing the shirt -I- wore into his concert. He jumped on top of a monitor, threw his piano stools at his piano, and created the big finale, all WEARING MY SHIRT. I was so proud! SO, BF5 fans, if you heard Ben say that Sledge rocks, or wondered whos!
e stylin' Adidas Soccer T-shirt he was modeling, I am proud and humbled to inform you that that was indeed attributable to me. I am honored to have had an influence at the best show I have ever attended.
Hope that you had the opportunity to be in Atlanta for this much rockin show,

I need to borrow an allen wrench,

JR

Here in the Ozarks, the local modern rock station seems to be getting plenty
of mileage out of "Song For The Dumped". The phrase "gimme back my black T-
shirt" has entered the local lexicon.

Someone (sorry, between reading it and hitting the reply button I seemed to
have forgotten who, and I'm too lazy to check) asked what the BFF Hit Du

Song For The Dumped a lot...

Also, something I thought was semi-amusing.
You know the movie Men In Black? Well it was on HBO over the weekend, and I
was watching it...Well, there's this one character named Reggie, he's an alien
and he's trying to leave Manhattan so his alien wife can have an alien
baby...Know who I'm talking about? It's not a big part...Anyway, maybe I'm
imagining it, but he bears a striking resemblance to Ben Folds..Not so much
facial features, but I don't know what it is! So if you watch the movie, see
if you agree :)
