A WORD FROM THE LISTOWNER
It seems that the off-topic chatter has gone way beyond the
acceptable level. Any discussion that is not related to Ben Folds Five is
not permitted on the Armchair, and this includes replies to other
messages from the Armchair that are themselves off-topic.
I did not want to have to do this, but I have started unsubscribing
users without warning who violate this rule. I do not want to become the
List Nazi, so please cooperate by keeping your posts clean and on-topic,
or I may be forced to remove you without warning also. Please take the
time to reread the information file that arrived when you subscribed. If
you don't have it anymore, send a message containing the word 'intro' in
the message body to armchair-request@maillist.il.fontys.nl.

MAJORDOMO DOESN'T LIKE IT EITHER
I started to think that Majordomo was on strike because of the off
topic mess, but it was because of a problem with a new version of
sendmail at the server that caused issues 1064 and 1065 to not be mailed.
If you submitted a post between roughly 8:00PM EDT on Friday (0000 UCT
Saturday) and 8:00PM EDT Saturday (0000 UCT Sunday), and the message is
truly related to BFF, please resubmit it.

Also, I just wanted to say that I taped the Atlanta show( I came out
really well even though you could barely hear Ben's voice at the concert over
Robert's bass) and I heard a roar during a certain part of Battle. I think it
was when Ben said something about "rockford files", hmmm...i wonder why that
was.

What's your favourite "ahhhhh" moment, or should I say
favourite heavenly harmonies in a BF5 song. You know, that moment
when they break into their perfect harmonies and it sends a shiver
down your spine and you know life doesn't get better than this. At
first I thought my favourite might be the Air song when they sing
"I'm coming up for air". Then I listened to the Live version of
Missing the war on my UK Brick Single and heard the harmonies in that
again. That is so cool. My vote has to go to Missing the
War.

I think we should have a vote for People's favourite BF5 harmony
moment. If your interested and Frank M doesn't mind his mailing list
becoming a voting booth, send your votes to the list and I'll add
them up and give the results next week.

Del.

Yep I'm new, I'm from the UK and I know what Brick's about.

I dunno if anyone gives a rat's wet, soggy arse, but if ya might still
be lookin' for the UK CD single of Underground, I found it over the
weekend @ CD Warehouse on 1st Ave in downtown Seattle for $1.99! I
remarked to the flunkie @ the register that it's relatively difficult to
find a copy these days & he said, "uhh, really? We've got a bunch in
back." I told him I'd tell everybody I know (great Keb Mo song, btw!).
If ya want a copy, either schlep your ass there & purchase it or I'll do
it for ya (for a fee!). Email (emailine?) me on the side & lemme know.
Otherwise...rock(ford) on w/your bad selves!

The Hard Rock Live show was lots of fun. You've read the other review(s)
by now, so I will spare you the gory details and just givey you my
opinions:

	- First off, they had some complete asshole open up the show with
some "jokes." He was an idiot. He worked for HRL and thought he was
pretty funny, but all his jokes relied on curse words and drug
	references.

	- I didn't think the sound was that great, comparitevely (spell
that one for me!). Sitting over on the right side like I was, I
had some trouble hearing the piano at times. But then again,
they're playing for TV, not for the audience, so as long as they
record the music they probably don't care.

	- Some idiot was holding up a brick during Brick and singing to
it. Yes, the genius was singing to his brick.

	- The polka/bluegrass version of Brick was something to hear. If
anyone recorded it, try as hard as you can to get your hands on
	it. It's worth it.

	- I'm sure this has been discussed before, but you can tell the
band is getting pretty sick of playing Brick. When the lights
went out, the only reason they played Brick again was because they
were required to do so by contract. Ben mumbled something about
that into the microphone, which is how I picked that up.

	- my friend thought that Ben was a pompous destructive jerk for
throwing his stool at the piano.

Those are the bulk of my thoughts. You can find a set list and what not
in other posts. I felt it was a very good show - of the two I've seen
(the other being at Cornell in November or so), this was much more
intimate and therefore much more fun.

Enjoy,

Dave

The Atlanta Show....wow, what a great place to be.....

Well, I had flown a week beforehand to visit my friend in Gainesville. So
I had been anticipating for a while!!! You have no idea how hard I worked
to get there. Well, when we pulled up to the Tabernacle and the first person
I saw was Mr. Folds himself prancing accross the parking lot. That was a good
sign for me! So we got in line, and I was wondering where all the people I
was suppposed to meet were, so I looked around. Met Kim:) She's great. Me
and my friends I dragged there got these sweet 88 cent stickers courtesy of
Kim.
We got inside, and wow, the Tabernacle is a pretty smooth place. It's
really quite nice. It gets extremely hot inside, however. They need big fans
or something badly. Me and my friends got up in the front, and I was really
excited cause this was my second concert and the I got better seats.
Snuzz came out, and I imagined the little chicks' surprise when they saw
Chuck Folds. His resemblance to his brother is uncanny. I mean, really, they
could be twins or something. Snuzz (pronounced Snooze, I made the mistake)
ruled. They were hilarious. Chuck was really smily and laughed at us. He
wanted to know what the 88 cent stickers were, so somebody threw some up
there, and he put on on. Then Sanders and Kim (I don't know Sanders, that's
what is said on his nametag) then proceeded to try and buy him. But Snuzz CDS
sold out, which was a pity cause they had great songs like one about Tommy Lee
and another about how people should shut up about the end of the world. Stuff
I can relate to. So go and email Chuck, he'd really appreciate it. I met him
after the show, and he signed my sticker, and I told him what it was. What a
nice guy. He was so friendly. And Eddie too. He signed my stub. So yeah,
Snuzz is cool. on the back of the trailer, it's really gross and disgusting,
but I wrote Chuck rules on it after I had gotten the black shit all over me.

Ben Folds Five, what a show. I know how people have been talking about
how Fair wasn't a good opener, but I certainly thought it ruled. Every song
was great, but Steven's was not very exciting. You couldn't even hear the
melodica, and that is my FAVORITE thing at the concert. Ben was getting very
frustrated, so he went back to the piano. I dont' know if Evaporated was on
the setlist, but I nearly cried. That is my favorite song. All slow Ben Folds
Five songs are totally achingly beautiful and I love them. So, I was totally
in a trance.. hehehhee.

Ok, we were really pissed off when these two assholes pushed us really
hard to get up to the front. They thought they were really cute and took
their navy blue shirts off and threw them onstage. The guard should have
thrown them out. But earlier, we had a Baywatch beachball being kicked
around. They were really obnoxious and wouldn't shut up about how they put it
on. NAVY!!! Oh geez, that was terrible. Please don't ever do something like
that folks. He was happier than a pig in shit, and therefore wouldn't shut up
during Boxing. Another slow great song. grrrrrrrrr

So I witenessed the Big Rock and Roll Ending when Ben stands on the
really high speakers and throws *NOT ONE BUT TWO* stools at the piano. He
even got on top of it with a mic stand to introduce Darren. Darren totally
kicks ass. He's such a good drummer. Robert was dancing a bunch during this
one too, and he got a haircut. Looks good.

And that was Atlanta. Sorry to ramble, but it was fun :)

Lucy
"I'm coming up for AIR" I've seen it live twice, and I LOVE it. I dont' think
it was "blantantly written for money" at all. What a great song.

Subject: Another semi-amusing story

Hey--although appearances may be deceiving, this *is* BF5 related:

Because the school year is rapidly and fortunately coming to a close, we
aren't doing anything in classes anymore, and so my friend and I made up a
game for one of our classes (it's a small latin class, and we take turns
making up games on days when we're not doing anything). Anyway, these games
don't have to involve latin or anything, so I made up a music category. OK,
now I thought this was pretty easy. I asked:
"How many people are in the band Ben Folds Five, and you get 20 bonus points
if you can name one other than Ben Folds."

Piece of cake, right? Not so!

"uh, FIVE?" ....No, sorry, that's not it.
"six?" .....no, try again.
"Isn't it, like, 4?"....No!
"7?" ...[sigh]..No..

It's 3, goddamn you! Three! I don't know...I just thought that maybe they
would know...I mean, 3 people in the room (out of maybe 12) had been to the
Y100 FEZtival, and I thought they'd know, at least...Wait, no, I guess they
wouldn't cause they were all smashed...Next time I'll take that into
consideration! Well, there's my semi-amusing story...I think it's the third
in my series.

Hey, and you know what else? They didn't know who the Brat Pack was! Not
even the 27 yr. old! :)

Still nothing here, as usual, not even Brick... That's kind of making me

We'll see the policy of Sony, maybe they'll decide someday to offer their

Hey Everybody:

Well, we're back from the frozen North. We spent two-and-a-half weeks in May
just outside of Hoboken, NJ recording our first album for Sire Records. The
studio was called IIWII studios in Weehawken. We recorded 14 songs, but only
12 or 13 of them will make the record.

We spent the last week-and-a-half mixing the record here in Nashville at East
Iris Studios. We're hoping to get the record out by mid-September (provided
we meet all the label's "deadlines"). I don't know what the hell we're going
to call it yet, or what the album art will look like. Updates as the details
come along. To summarize, we're all quite pleased with the way the record
came out. It was recorded (virtually) live and definitely has a live feel -
which is what the producers were going for.

We're finally getting to play our first live show since before the record -

SAT, June 20 - Nashville TN The Sutler
   - the opener is a guy who played with the Lemonheads and Blake Babies - I
can't
think of the guy's name (it's not Evan Dando), but it should be a fun show

In a bit of ex-Judybats news, Jeff Heiskell is now seeking releases from
former bandmates so that he can have use of the name "The Judybats". This can
only mean that his current band (known as "Shoho") may be changing its name to
the Judybats. I don't know if any ex-Judybats (i.e. Johnny, Ed, etc) are
playing with him again or not, as I haven't spoken with Mr. Heiskell. Perhaps
some Knoxville types can shed some light on that subject. Either way, be on
the look out for a possible "new?" Judybats.
