In response to your question about the aaahhh moment..... The first thing
I thought of after reading the aahhh moment was their harmony in Missing the
War. I completely agree with you, that is amazing. I love it.
Also, does anyone else not like the irish sounding music in Smoke. I hate
that. I think it's like my least favortie bff song. Later on Chairers~

Hello all armchairians!
Well, I need some help (again.). Well, I need to know if any as the
dates, cities, and places that Ben Folds Five has performed from 6/26/98 on
down. (6/25, 6/24, etc.) And, what would be great are the setlists for those
performances, if at all possible. Thanks, all going to a good cause. :-)
Thanks a bunch,

hey all,
Can I just ask a question. I'm pretty new to this mailing list but I've
noticed that a hell of a lot of you have talked to the members of the band.
May I ask how you got the oppurtunity in the first place? Do you know what I
would give to meet them? Just curious, and also very jealous! Thanx for
listening, well reading, whatever!

Evidently you guys have been through all of this before, but may as well

I received an email from about my post, politely and rationally
questioning my comments. Here is what I sent her and jess, too:

Now, I've been on the list for a while, and am _not_ new to taping (btw,
I was standing next to a whole bunch of people with .88 stickers on
Sunday and figured it was Armchairites, but didn't ask) Anyway, I really
only collect bff on dat and have never been asked to do a 2:1. when I
was starting out, people kindly offered b&p, which _is_ the standard in
the rest of the taping world. And the wear and maintenance on dat
machines is _much_ more expensive than cassette decks. Ask someone with 500
hours of phish or moe or SCI or anything else about 2:1 and they'll probably
stop just short of calling you a crook.
If armchairites have decided to adopt a 2:1 as the gold standard,
it's no skin off my back, and I'll stay away from it. but don't be so
arrogant as to call it _the_ standard. and I'm not, for most purposes,
and asshole. but I guess everyone thinks that about themselves.
I will not apologise, though, because what i said was a spoonful
of sugar compared to some of the abortion/phone-ringing/what's a
melodica/ben's so cute caustic rebuttals that go one here. Plus I still
think I'm right :).
Since I'm such a nice guy, I'll offer b&p from _one_ of my daud1's
from the 10/18/97, 11/17/97, or 2/21/98 shows to the first 3 newbies to
email me. Your subject heading must be "the Ryan's an asshole b+p offer."
Later,

Hello All!
I'm not sure if that fave mel0dies thing is still going on, but I'm going to
keep it going since I think it's a snazzy topic. I'm definitely partial to
"evaporated" the "Oh God, what have I done..?" line. Gets me every time. ANd I
will always be the first advocate of Best Imitation's chorus with the awesome
piano chord changes in the background.."Did I make me up or make the face til
it stuck, I do the best imitation of myself." Gotta love it!!! And as for
favorite songs, I'd say...God, there are so many...the top couple (in my
opinion) and Selfless and Tom and Mary....I have this weird thing for that
song. Actually...my true love is Evaporated, but considering it's immense
popularity, I don't want to look like TOO much of a wannabe....oh well....
Bye for now,

i'm wondering why someone who has feelings about a social issue would
necessarily have an agenda.
about jessica and 2:1 -- she did an amazing trade for me, and was in the
midst of, i think, 10 trades at the time. i don't like 2:1. but the reason
we even started talking trade was that she posted about someone who
wanted 10 bucks as a "tip" for copying a videotape; she wanted to make
sure people knew there were alternatives. and she sure didn't take 2:1
for my trade, even though i had nothing she wanted. i'm forever grateful.
so count this as a post in her defense, if you're counting. thanks.

Personally, I have 14 cds with BFF on them. Yes, some are import singles but
still, those are the only way to get songs like, "Mitchell Lane" and "Missing
the War (live):
1. Godzilla s/t "Air"
2. Mr. Wrong s/t "SFTD"
3. Truth About... s/t "Bad Idea"
4. AFRD "Teleconned": "Dr. Pyser"
5. Lounge-A-Palooza" "She Don't Use Jelly" (Also avail. on a "Brick" import!
Do NOT
buy this cd. It sucks and BFF is the ONLY thing worth listening to.)
6. BFF self-titled (obviously)
7. Whatever... (obviously)
8. NBP (see above comment)
- -----The following are just odds and ends, imports and mag inserts, etc.-----
9. CMJ Music "Smoke (Live)"
10. Brick single w/ "Mitchell Lane" and "Smoke (Live)"
11. Brick single w/ "Missing the War (Live)" and "She Don't Use Jelly"
12. Brick single w/ "SFTD (Japanese)" and "Smoke (Live)"
13. Underground single w/ "Video (live)" and "Satan Is My Master"
14. American Oxford Magazine "Tom and Mary"
15. There are also some "SFTD" singles that I don't have...anyone who can help
me?

Subject: Fave harmonies
Hey there!
I'd say that I have a few, just to be awkward. Um ... the chorus in
Alice Childress is pretty divine, so too are the harmonies in Missing
The War. The ones in She Don't Use Jelly are pretty cool too!
But ... I'd say that Missing The War (WAEA version) takes the biscuit,
purely because they totally pierce to head every time I hear them.
Eddie Walker - when then line "...and you kept falling down" is sung,
and they all club together on the word "down" do create a lovely sound.
That's another glorious BFF moment. There's just too many to decide, but
as I've already said, Missing the War takes 1st place for me!
What's even better is that they're not that difficult to copy either. Me
and my brother frequent the Motorway in his car, singing the harmonies
together as best we can with only two people, but it sounds really good.
We also sometimes add new harmonies on top of the ones which are already
there, which can make it sound really amazing.
On the piano, some of the chords Ben plays are also really nice. For
instance. At the end of Brick, the chord which is played (Amaj with C#
bass) sounds incredible when sang with the final "slowly". Just great!!!
Well, I think so anyway.
Sorry if I've bored you, I just get carried away, and writing like this
is a release for me as I have exams at the moment.
Good idea, BACK ATCHA BABE!
