BINARIES
Another reminder: Please do not post binary files (JPEGs, etc) to the

post ran that issue to 89k (the usual maximum is 20k) and caused the
issue to bounce from about 50 subscribers' e-mail accounts that could
not handle a message that large.
If you wish to share a picture with the listmembership, please either

<<I hope everyone gets to see this Sonic Youth video. It features the
young man himself in slow motion for the duration of the video. Wow. Not
only does he make out with this "wife" for quite a while, but he ALSO licks
his lips. It does make you kinda sick, but it's also quite uplifting.... what
a funny video.>>
Man, that's what I'm talkin about. I turned on the tv last week and I saw
Macauly Caulkin (whatever) licking his lips like that. It's discusting.
Everytime I see him I still see him screaming and yelling "i don't think so"
(home alone movies). yikes!

In reguards to the conversation between JKFett & Toadyrage that appeared in
armchair #1105, I don't believe it. I don't think it's true; people have
screwed me over by making up crap like that. For all we know, Toadyrage is
just some pissed off cs that is jealous or something. People make up stuff
for different reasons, and I'm thinking there is a reason for this one.
When I met Robert a couple of months ago, he didn't seem stuck up, in a
hurry, or like I was wasting his time or anything. I know that they have
changed some, but I don't think they have changed to an extreme such as that.

I know I know I know...probably a million others have already responded, but
hey, there's nothing like beating a dead horse. People will always believe
what they choose to believe..which lies at the heart of this email. AOL
chats....people you don't know. I could say I knew the Pope and that he was
mean to me or something. A lot of the time, and this is common sense I would
think to all internet users, people you chat with aren't telling the truth. So
before you start thinking that Ben and Co. have become some wretched demons
ruined by fame, let's think about the source. Thank you and good night...and
looking forward to Conan next Thursday!! I'm throwing a Conan party if anyone
wants to come...right now it's just me :)

Hey all...ok i know everyone is responding to "the shocking post" about
BFF...but i have to put in my 2 cents...
1) I personally dont think its true i have never met the boys but...from what
i head they sound like a great bunch!!!
2) if i was that talented i would probably get a little full of myself as
well...
3) even if Ben was the biggest asshole in the world...that doesnt change my
opinion about their talent and the fact that i love their music! I think i
speak for most of you when i say that
anyway totally on a different topic...i had the strangest dream last
night...in my dream Ben married his current girlfriend and had a baby girl
named Kate Folds =)

Cover song? Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight- by the one and only
Beatles. That pretty much sums it up.
Ok guys, I'm a fairly new, truly obsessed fan, having had a major BFF
overload during the last couple of weeks. Basically, what I'm asking for
is some juicy info on the boys: age, life story, relationships (amorous or
other), height, foot size, y'know, the basics. Please indulge me!
Actually, I think i'm pretty good for a beginner. I'd like to believe
they are the greatest thing since the beatles, this coming from someone
who's been a Beatlemaniac since age 4. Ok, enough about me, please feed
me, I need input!
Sank you very mush.

Okay...first of all, it looks like I have made some major waves on the
Chair...change that, not waves, a monsoon... I do agree with most people that
one person's account can not be taken holeheartedly..chances are much of the
conversation is false (i.e. bodyguard). But he DOES live in Chapel Hill as he
is sending me a telephone book from there with Sledge's and Jessee's telephone
numbers in them, as well as a ad in the yellow pages for the Hardback Cafe. So
that part stands true. He obviously, no matter what experiences you have had
in the past with them, have a grasp (at least a little) on something the rest
do not. Now, when I posted it I had NO INTENTIONS OF DETOURING FAN SUPPORT and
did not believe all of it myself... Believe me, with all of the hate mail I
have been getting, I am aware that my true intention of just sparking some
talk amongst fans about how BFF is handing their new fame. I apologize for not
clarifying this in the letter and hope I did not make enemies for myself, nor
for the band...

Okay i STILL think an awesome cover song would be Peter Gabriel's
"Sledgehammer", as long as Rob sings and dances to it! :)
BFF and BNL: the Ladies are certainlly much funnier than BFF (they started
as a comedy troupe). Canada is also cleaner than the US. And they have
national healthcare. But i digress. Uhm....I wonder if the two bands dig
each other?
JKFett's chat: If i got famous and had to come back to cleveland, I'd be a
bitch to anyone who i didn't like from when i was younger. That's my
ultimate goal: become famous and then snub all the assholes i know. I bet
that toady guy was an asshole ben didn't like.

Hopefully someone on the chair or RF can back this up...
I just thought of a brilliant cover...Grant Lee Buffalo's "Mockingbirds".
I have the GLB Honey Don't Think Promo CD5, and there is this version of
Mockingbirds live with a more prominent piano line, less guitar, more
bass and a sweet "Smoke"esque drum line. The chorus, for the majority of
you guys who haven't heard it is falsetto harmonies. Ahem, can we say
perfect for the band. The guitar solo, is actually easily transcribed to
bass, and it would just work soooo well. It is a crossover in styles
seeing that BFF is not a Americana band in the mold of Son Volt, Wilco,
or Tragically Hip(actually from Canada) as GLB is. Mockingbirds would
absolutely rawk!
Reply publicly or privately...would love to meet other devoted GLB fans
that are also disappointed in the departure of Paul Kimble and the
addition of the Tonic bassist on the new album, that is by far their
worst to date.
Oh well, also waiting the inevitable cover of Karma Police by Radiohead.
I also think that covers of Fountains of Wayne - I want an Alien For
Christmas, Matthew Sweet - Sick of Myself(man those chorus harmonies
could be pristeen), For Squirrels - Left Behind, and Counting Crows -
Raining in Baltimore. Guess that's enough from me. Two posts in two
days? What's wrong with me. Thought of another great cover!!! Vic
Chesnutt - Dodge!!! Could be sooooo good with high energy!!!!
Ordered the Looper 7"(Stuart David of Belle and Sebastian), can't wait.
Check out the new Wilco/Billy Bragg collaboration too on recreating
unreleased Woody Guthrie songs. So brilliant. Sooooo brilliant. Ohhhh.
New Counting Crows Live!!! New Elliott Smith!!!! New TMBG Live!!!!
Soooo excited!!!!

This may sound silly, but I have a live tape from the Roskilde festival,
but since I'm fairly new to BFF I'm not quite familiar with their
songs/song titles. Could someone please help me out with these three:
1. The announcer refers to a song as "If it makes you happy" (?)
2. They sing "down from day one" (referred to from the announcer as "Day
from day one")
3. They're doing some basketball rap (referred to as "Basket")
Thanks!!

Just to chuck my hat into the ring..
On the topic of covers, well what about "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul
McCartney. Heard it on Virgin radio couple of days back, and reckon it'd
sound pretty damn awesome cover by a certain three-piece. Also, what about
Not the Girl You Think You Are by Crowded House (for those of you who know
me I had to have one, ok?) - the simple-ish chord progression at the start
- - I can already see and hear Ben playing it, and Darren and Rob could
harmonise over "he won't deceive you/or tell you the truth", you know, just
"aah"'s, if that makes any sense.
And as for Weezer, yes Say It Ain't So would be pretty damn fine, but what
about No One Else, or The Sweater Song...

Ben Folds Five? Assholes? Who cares.
They make great great music.
I submit for your edification a SHORT list (that could very easily be
a long one) of great musicians and other famous people who are
respected despite their assholedom.
John "Cougar or not Cougar" Mellencamp- pays someone to follow him
around with a pack of Lucky Strikes and a lighter, in case he gets the
urge.. no sense in using one's own pocket.
David Letterman- everyone who knows him (yes, including his mom) say
that he's as big of a jerk off the air as he is on the show... but
he's funny, right?
LeAnn Rhimes- once cut in front of me at a movie theatre with her
entourage of 8 preteen groupies, and then was given free tickets to an
R rated show (not yet even the ripe old age of 17 was she when I had
this encounter) .. okay, I admit that wasn't a good illustration, I
just wanted to bitch for a second.
...and the biggest most talented asshole of all time...
Sting- who once, during practice, tried to kill his guitarist (in the
oh so happy Police days) with a switchblade he had concealed in a
"make-up" bouquet of flowers.
In short, assholes make good music. I'd like to believe that Ben and
the guys are as fun and as quirky as they seem, but that may not be
true. If not, so be it. Assholes make good music.
hand me my nosering,
the other Grover
