hi all,
this is kinda in response to that guy rich. i'd just like to say calm down. it
seems to me that topics go in waves on this mailing list. from what type of
piano ben uses to favorite piano solos or harmonies to this. here's a
suggestion, if you don't like the topic SUGGEST A NEW ONE! you don't have to
get rude and insult people's points of view. they're all valid. i really don't
think that person that mentioned the marilyn manson thing was trying to get in
a fight, i think they were just making a point. even if bff isn't gonna use
the songs, i found it quite humorous picturing the guys singing the songs
(especially "Bohemian Rhapsody" "mama mia let me go...") anyways, just calm
down. the discussion seems to be sizzling down and i'm sure another topic will
arise soon enough. have a lovely day.

In response to a very strange e-mail I got, I'll answer Sarah's question.

Ben should go with Alanis Morisette
Robert should go with Jewel
Darren(I know it sounds weird) should go with Baby Spice

Now, Sarah, what about you?

OK, OK, I know. But I figure if other people can do "digests-within-a-digest",
so can I. So here goes.

- ---Ben Folds Five and MTV FANatic
- ---Ben Folds Five and the MTV Video Awards
- ---Vernon Downs memories

BFF and FANatic
Oh boy. So y'all have been getting this email, too? I assume it's based on
the addresses of newsgroup posters, so here goes nothing.
Even though I'm underage, I don't want to be on the show. Why? Because I have
a life beyond Ben Folds Five. They're a great band, but I haven't shaved "BFF
RULZ" in my hair (not that it would show up very well), I haven't gone farther
than Ithaca to see a show, which is only about an hour and a half away, and I
have no plans to not buy other bands' CDs because it might show that I don't
have a one-sided infatuation with BFF...because I don't. I like many bands,
some of which would probably make you cringe. And I do NOT want to be the
poster boy for a BFF fan. I'm sure it would misrepresent those of you who are
hyper mega fans, anyway.

BFF and the Video Awards
As I'm sure you know, BFF are up for Best Alternative Video for "Brick"
against Green Day, Garbage, Radiohead, and the Verve. Personally, I can't see
why Roni Size, Sean Lennon, Bjork, or even Busta Rhymes didn't get nominated,
since they're certainly more "alternative" than some of those choices. Even
though this news is sure to set off a huge anti-Brick stream (again), let me
congratulate the band on their nomination...and tell them that against "Karma
Police" and "Push It", they'd better knock off some judges if they wanna win.

Vernon Downs Memories
For those of you not at this show, Sam and Sarah (pronounced Sahr-ah if I
remember correctly) getting engaged was wild. And then playing "Smoke"
afterwards. Killer. A note to Dustin-I was front row, wearing a Seattle
Mariners hat and my middle C shirt. Right next to Sam, and I actually snuck
backstage with my friend Andy after Sam went to talk to Ben. Very cool show.
And I'm glad people are still bringing that up.

Well, that's all for my long-windedness. Bye!

Is it just me, or is this "fan club" pointless.. I mean, what the hell is the armchair and the official site for? Yeah, it starts out with a few "donations" but turns out to be a huge scam.. You can't fool us..or at least me..

By the way, I heard my favorite radio station talking about the Japanese version of "Evaporated"! That's awesome... First it was "Song For The Dumped"... man are these guys going Japanese!! Where can I get it?

65.oo??? I dunno if this was like a standerd price but i also noticed they had
some Radiohead bootleg for someting like 200.oo bucks which i thought
personly was nuts!!! i mean whats so specail about that cd? do they sing the
whole set backwards or something??? I ferget the title of the Ben Folds Five
boot cause it was like a month ago but it was from Philly.... I'm not a cheap
b*st*rd i just thought that 65.oo dollars what ALOT for 2 cds.....To get to my
point is 65.oo dollars standard for a BFF boot or were these people just rip

Ben Folds Five is up for best Alternative Video at the '98 MTV Music Video
Awards with everyone's favorite song....Brick. (Which I still like, by the
way.) It's challengers: Garbage "Push It", Green Day "Time of Your Life (Good
Riddance)", The Verve "Bittersweet Symphony", and Radiohead "Karma Police".
Although I'm rootin' for Brick, expect Garbage to win. MTV Labeled it a
"Breakthrough Video".

Oh, my unspeakable joy at some of the things being mentioned on this
list lately. Little did I know that other people in this world have the
same music tastes as me! I saw Tori (as in Amos) mentioned a couple of
times, and my heart leapt. I have been left in shock by the recent, and
consistent, Weezer references.. but to see the word "WEEN" crop up on my
screen..well that's another story! If anyone out there in kom-poo-ter
land also has Scud Mountain Boys, Will Oldham or Smog leniances, please
e-mail me.

On another note, I've been quietly absorbing all this talk about Kate.
Like James, I have read that the song of the same name has nothing to do
with Ben's ex-wife. Ben said in an interview that the song was about
having a crush on someone. And he went on to say that there are not
enough songs written about crushes these days. He's a man after my own
heart...

ok, I know some people are getting sick of this covers thing, but I
think it's interesting and it gives me something to do with my life.....

I think 'Don't Worry, be happy' would be awesome...c'mon you can just
imagine Darren and Robert singing the
'do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-' and Ben the 'Dont worry, be happy
baby...'! ..ok, so maybe it's just me...!
I also thought that maybe Mrs Robinson would be pretty cool.
Whoever suggested 'Gough' by the Whitlams, i agree! wouldn't it be
excellent...shame darren, ben and robert might not know who 'gough'
is....!

thanks for listening...
anna.

If anyone in the New York area can tape Patty Griffin on Vin Scelsa's
"Idiots Delight" radio broadcast WNEW 102.7 The information I got says
8-16-98, but it's probably 7-16-98. The show is live from NYC and
usually includes live performance and interview. Show is from 8:00pm to
2:00 am and the artist will be featured for an hour or so.

I would prefer DAT, but will take an analog master of this.

I will copy my Live From The Pit BF5 CD for whoever tape this for me.

Actually, that's the first time the word "shit" was EVER used in a motion
