I just got through sifting through the past five digests...here I go:
Even though I had to leave for the shore early the next day, and I was in the
middle of packing, I stayed up to watch Conan. I thought it was great! The
crowd was really enthusiastic, I know that was because a bunch of you were
there. :) At the end, I heard someone yell something. I'm going to check
back on the tape and see what it was; I'm wondering if it was anyone on the
list.
Oh, I wore my BF5 W&EA shirt one day down the shore. We were staying with my
friend's great aunt, and I sat down at the table...She looks at me and says,
"Bens..Fold..Five?" And I said, "yeah, ben folds five." then she tried
reading the whatever and ever amen part...she was really confused, but i
didn't bother explaining it to her. i think she thought it was some religious
t-shirt, actually (the amen part).
And that night we went to the boardwalk and some guy mentioned something to me
about my shirt. :) I don't think there's many BF5 fans @ the shore though.
The vast majority like the Spice Girls or Coal Chamber. :)
And there's still a few BF5 bootlegs @ Pandemonium, btw. Oh, I'm making a
copy of a tape for someone, and she sent me hers....I lost your address and I
can't remember your screen name, so please e-mail me!
Bye, "don't leave me hiiiiiiiigh." --radiohead--

Unfortunately the only way I know of to get Conan on Aussie tv is
through foxtel. It is screened on the Comedy channel which is
unfortunately in there pay extra money deal :( Unfortunately I don't
get it!!!! *sobs*
I want my Foxtel. although would not like to pay for it.... oh well....

Subject: about darren being so skinny
There have been a lot of messages about people saying Darren is very skinny,
and having not ever seen him except in pictures, I don't know if hes lost a
lot of weight or something, but a reason for this is probably because they are
touring so much.....if you think about it , it makes sense, it's happened to
other people. One person I know of is Ed Kowalczyk, during their last tour he
lost a bunch of weight, and hes still extremely skinny because of that...but
anyway, it doesn't matter to me what anyone looks like, so long as they're
healthy and happy :)
anyway.....glad to hear that they did do FANatic, I can't wait to see it :)
i think that's it.....hey, am I the only person on here that doesn't like BNL?
sorry :(

<<Why does Darren look like a crack fiend? I haven't seen the boys
lately...and he's gotten awfully skinny. Where's the beef?>>
Heh, funny you should mention beef. That's why he is so skinny. Darren
doesn't eat meat because it makes him sick. Gotten awfully skinny? I've
never seen him big. He looks like he's on crack because of the coffee, lack
of sleep, and cigarettes.
<<Could someone please tell me if Brick was ever released as a single
in the states or did it get in the top 5 on radio play alone ? If
they did, does it have any good B-sides on.>>
Brick wasn't released in the states, it was released in the UK. It was a 2
part single. Pt. 1 ---> brick, smoke (live), & sftd (Jpn) Pt. 2 --->
brick, missing the war (live), & she don't use jelly
It was also released in Japan & Australia. Japan --> brick, smoke
(strings), kate (ska), fair (disco), mitchell lane. Australia ---> same as
japanese, but without fair. I've never seen an actual USA single.
alright, i'm done.

Fellow Armchairites,
1. Quickly, I don't like to read articles about the Counting Crows unless
they do a cover of "Fannie Packs." 'Nuff said.
2. In Boston, WBCN and WAAF are pretty good about playing BFF songs other than
"Brick." I've heard OAD and SFTD on 'BCN and I've heard SFTD on 'AAF. I'll
have to remember to put in a request for "Battle" or something that hasn't
been beaten to death yet.
3. Most importantly, I have a set of CDs for my Mac from 1996 that basically
act as a telephone book for the entire United States. I had the ingenious
idea that I would be able to look up people who were not famous in 1996 but
have made it big since and maybe their numbers may be listed. Granted, they
may have been changed. My friend and I tried to call Art from Everclear and
got an answering machine message that was not his. Oh well. Of course the
first locale that I looked up was Chapel Hill, NC. Lo and behold, home phone
numbers for Ben Folds and Darren Jessee. I haven't tried them because, if I
were them, I wouldn't want some 17-year-old snot from Boston calling my house.
I just want some input from y'all about this. Private e-mails please. Thanx.

Hey Everyone,
Before you start bashing the new kid, lemme just give ya some backround...In
June I attended a show at Darien Lake, near Buffalo NY in which I was pumped
to see one of my all time favorite artists, Beck...but much to my surprise I
was much more impressed and pumped after Ben Folds Five left the stage, I was
more in awe actually...I mean I'd heard Brick on the radio a million times but
sorry if I offend anyone, it really didn't get me so convinced that I should
buy the album, but boy did the show influence me...Song For the Dumped was
sooo awesome, especially cause this "bitch" that was my woman was at the
concert too, which made things soo cool....I don't want to go on and on but
basically I thought the whole set was awesome...I was just pissed that they
didn't give the band more time too jam...In fact I already had the Godzilla
soundtrack and I loved the song Air so i was kinda hoping they might play
it...Anyways the next day I ran to Media Play and bought the album and have
been listening to it nonstop since and well that's my story...I love the "Kiss
My Ass" shirt too I bought at the concert, I gotta wear it like at least once
a week!! Anyways I hope I still have some of your respect...I'm Out

Subject: about those singles and imports
If you are looking for singles, imports, etc. via BF5 I would check
http://www.cdnow.com or http://www.ubl.com these are the 2 best
selections I have seen anywhere. I watched Total Request tonight and it
will take about 30,000 emails to get to number 1. I just want them on
the countdown. Hell I just want them to play a BF5 song. I would even
accept Uncle Walter.
On another note, I finally scraped up all of my money and fnally
bought the first BF5 album. I think on this mailing list you would
refer to people like me as a"Brickhead" (people who became fans after
Brick came out.) And I would just like to clarify something. I became
a fan after the Battle of Who Could Care Less so there. I guess I am a
battlehead. What would you call it? I really like the first album. It
rocks!
Lastly, this is a little off topic, but anyways, I have noticed a
lot of BF5 fans like Dave Matthews Band too. are there any DMB fans
here? Is anyone going to the concert in Memphis August 11?

Okay for my radio listening pleasure I have KIYS (Celine Dion, Janet
Jackson, Natalie Imbruglia *ugh*, Puff Daddy *ugh ugh*) Then we have
Z100 (Metallica, Lynard Skynard, Led Zepplin *no offense to the classics
but when you play Freebird at least 10 times a day it gets kind of old*)
There is one station about 1 hour away that plays BF5 constantly but I
can never get them. Maybe I need to move to Memphis where that station
is. I wish that more people here have heard about them.
I want to know if BF5 plan to come back to Memphis or the Beale
Street Music Festival next year. If they do that would make my day,
week, month, year, and life! Maybe one of these days they will play
some real music on the radio.

it's suprising how many brisbane fans there are on the armchair, I

also, I take back what I said about the brick sheet music sounding like
it had been transcribed by someone who's tone deaf - it turns out I have

Hi there,
Just wanted to respond to a few posts from recent issues...
1. Conan O'Brien show
>Strangely, I was wondering the exact same thing <JenH330@aol.com> asked
>about-- if anyone who saw the taping knew what they were talking about. I
>only caught that last snipet. Just curious.
>From where I was standing up on the side of the studio I couldn't tell. Ben
was actually whispering right in Conan's ear--I don't think even Rob or
Darren know what they were saying. Incidentally, Conan invited Ben over to
sit on the couch but there was no sign of Rob or Dar right away. They came
out right before the end of the commercial. Conan seemed a bit surprised at
the response to Ben Folds Five--I told you we'd make an impact!
2. bree Nevin wrote:
>Ben's girlfriend's name is Riley and she's from Adelaide!
Check your facts before you post--part of that statement is right but I
won't say which part. But don't ask--it's really not any of our business.
Let the boys have their private life and let us keep enjoying the music.
3. Doug's post
>This is Doug. I claim to be BFF's tour manager.
It's great to see you back on the 'Chair, Doug! To anyone who hasn't been
helped out by Doug one way or another at a show, it will happen some time.
The boys really did look rushed after the show taping, but they were still
good enough to sign a few autographs and pose for some pictures. But I give
negative points to the girl who asked Ben if he would "smoke up" with her.
What was she thinking?? So Doug, keep up the good work...and I like the
hair cut! Now that it's summer I'm sure those shorts are all the more
comfortable!
4. New pictures and review.
I posted pictures from the Hard Rock Live appearance (some of the stage set
and some from afterwards) and some pictures from Conan. I also wrote a
review of the trip to see the Conan taping. See Exit 13 at
http://exit.base.org to check them out. For all you Darren fans, there's a
great photo of Darren and I from after the HRLive taping...
I've really enjoyed reading everyone's reactions to watching Conan O'Brien
on TV. It was great to be there in person and to see everyone just going
crazy for Ben Folds Five. We sure were making some noise, huh!!
Thanks for reading.

Subject: lots
first of all. I would like to first apologize for what i'm about to say.
Second, this is what i apolgize for. EVERYONE who is gonna talk about
other bands should the f*** out and give me back my black t-shirt. I'm so
tired of reading through, what is one of the BEST mailings, and finding
crap about other bands. My madness started with this crap about the
counting crows which was WAY too long. But now, every little thing is bad.
It's horrible. Don't tell me this album is so awsome, or this group is
cool because you know what. Ben Folds kicks all there asses. (my opinion).
But i didn't come here to listen to everyone disagree with my opinion
cause that isn't what it's about. It's about everyone coming here,
discussing, inquiring, and hailing Ben Folds Five. So to all those people
who like other bands just as well as ben folds five...join their newsgroup
also so those people who know stuff about OTHER bands can tell you
somewhere where it doesn't concern me. There are plenty of other places to
hear about other bands this is not the place....gracious (and no offense
to those people who are inquiring about what other people listen to, but
don't tell me their better or they are cooler than bens cause i don't wanna
hear you. Dirty talk is what it is)
Third, i would like to say that this is much better than the newsgroup
which is ben folds five...even thought this is a little harder to file
through i love reading this and it's awsome being a part of something this
fucking cool.
finally, the dance version of brick SUCKS! I bought the cd and found out
that i hated it. That was like 12 bucks wasted. You wanna know why it
sucks? Cause it's not ben folds five. Yeah, you say that it's cool to hear
something more uptempo from a song like that except, that ain't how the
song is suppose to be. If it were suppose to be a techno song ben's
would've made it techno but in no way is it suppose to be techno. Techno
people alway fuck up good music. Look on that same CD. They fuct up
Bittersweet Symphony.
Talk to you all later....
