The Lovin' Spoonful were actually more of a late '60's phenomenon. Have you
ever heard the song, "What a Day for a Daydream?" That was one of their more
famous hits. John Sebastian, the lead singer, is also famous for the theme
song for "Welcome Back, Kotter," named appropriately enough "Welcome Back." I
do believe that The Lovin' Spoonful played at Woodstock also. They're vaguely
similar to Ben Folds Five, but listen to some of Loudon Wainwright III's early
stuff if you want some more similarities. The one time that I met Ben Folds
after a concert in Syracuse, NY (he came out afterwards and mingled with the
stragglers for a little while), we actually got into a brief chat about Loudon
Wainwright III...seems Ben likes him too, as he'd just purchased one of his
CD's a few days prior. Listen in particular to the song "Red Guitar," quoted
by Ben as being his favorite song from the CD "Loudon Wainwright III-Album
III." Write me back if you want more info on Loudon too.

Well, the Lovin' Spoonful was a mega-popular band in the mid-late 60's
who had such hits as, "Summer in the City", "Daydream", "Younger Girl".
The lead singer/songwriter was John Sebastian, whom I play guitar with
every now and then. Now, you may know John best for his penning of the
theme to Welcome Back Kotter.
Bentent: I don't think Ben Folds Five resemble the Lovin' Spoonful in
any way shape or form. Oh, and I went to a party tonight and subjected
everyone to an hour and a half of Ben Folds Five and Dave Matthews. They
all liked Uncle Walter... I ramble...

Figures! MTV finally airs some BF5, and what do they do? Cut as much
of the interview out as they possibly can! Of the ten minutes they
actually alotted them (instead of the usual fifteen), most of it was
filled up with clips and Daniel making his way to meet them (even if his
nervous gushing was cute to watch. ;) Go Dan!).
And 'bout the NBP lyrics to "Bad Idea" . . . I always thought the third
line was "I think I see some sweet scorin'" . . . but then, I could be
wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. :)

Hey everybody! I just recieved my master MP3 CD in the mail today - I got it
from a link at the Ben Folds Audio Archive. It is really awesome and I highly
recommend buying it - it has upwards of 50 Mp3s on it - the entire KCRW show,
all the b-sides, chicago and san diego shows, the entire original demo, and
lots of good stuff. Also, they will burn a 74 minute audio CD which you can
create - just pick and choose your favs from the MP3 cd and they'll put it on
cd for ya - I hope this doesnt sound like a commercial here...anyway the email
address for the dude that does it is Ben5@geocities.com. The Mp3 cd is $15.
I have to say the string version of Philosophy from teh KCRW show is awesome -
its my new fav bootleg type song.
Ok enough o' that

I'm going to post this one last time :
LAUNCH, the interactive magazine for your PC, did an interview with Ben Folds
Five about a year ago. It's a GREAT interview, and includes a performance of
OAD with it. I definately reccommend this for any BFF fan. LAUNCH is now
taking orders for back issues. To order the Ben Folds Five interview, call
- -1800-2LAUNCH- *ask for Issue 14. If they ask you if you want the one with
Sara McLachlan on the cover, the answer is yes. Ben Folds Five is in it!

Subject: BFF on FANatic.
Hello armchairians. I just have two things to say.
- -One, BFF got screwed on TV again. First off, they tried to squeeze three
celebrities in one show. Why on BFF night?! So, that left them, and Dan with
about 5 minutes, and 6 seconds at the credits. Which, in my opinion, sucked.
That also happened on H.R.L. They put BFF and Squeeze in one. Why couldn't
they have the hour, like 3eb did, and Earth, Wind, and Fire? I don't know..
- -Second, about the MTV Music Awards. Me and my friend were talking about
how we wish we could vote for BFF, but it's only viewers choice. So, we
figured, why can't we write in and vote, and gets some armchairers to do this,
as well. It's just a suggestion, I thought I'd post, and get y'all opinions on
that.
Thanks for reading,
Amy

Hello armchairers,
I'm not a poster on here, but, I wanted to post for this.
A friend said that someone had Ben Folds in Playgirl scanned on the
computer, but, my friend declined in taking it. I was curious if Ben
really posed in Playgirl, or was that person screwing with her mind?
Please e-mail me privatly at
