I find this disrespectful of VH1 to refer to ben folds five as "this BRICK
band" now come on. For god sakes they could've said, "This chapel hill
trio's name doesn't reflect the size of their band" or sumthing else. I
mean, i think it's totally cool that they were actually on VH1 jeopardy but
still, brick is not my favorite band and it is frankly sold out. just
upsets me.

Early, and opinion were two big words in my letter that a lot of people
seemed to miss, and it is strange how defensive people can get when someone
who loves the same band as them makes a comment about not liking some of their
songs as much as other people. Just because I don't like SFTD doesn't mean I
don't love BFF. And just because you do love SFTD doesn't mean you don't love
BFF as much as me or more. All it is, is an opinion, and also in my opinion
mellow is more of a thing where I listen to Last Polka and I just want to sit
there are listen to it and maybe have a little cry, when I hear SFTD it
invokes rage and I wanna go out and kill stuff, and Selfless Calm And Composed
just makes me feel like I should go and kill stuff because BFF made such a
crappy song (sarcasm, really, I don't mean it) it's just that everyone comes
off as an asshole when they post on the list (not sarcasm, really). So I have
to defend my views. And if you don't understand my point of view too bad you
can go off and die or crawl in a hole or smoke a bowl or something, I don't
care.

I have to agree with Evan on this one, every Ben Folds Five song is
wonderful. The great thing about them is that no matter what mood I'm
in, there is at least one Ben Folds Five song to fit it. God I love
those guys!

...because of Sam the Record Man and the HMV practically next door by Yonge
(why in the world is it pronounced "young"?) Street. Both of which carry
"UNDERGROUND" CD SINGLES (!) and Japanese "Brick" singles. There are still a
few left, along with "Brick" in paper sleeve singles...
So Now You Don't Have to Sell Your Soul To The Devil To Get The Underground
Singles (Both 1 And 2), You Just Have To Sell Your Soul To a Canadian! :)
And people keep telling me that HMV "sucks." Of course, that was the only one
that I'd ever been to, but still, I scored some BFF singles, there, so how bad
can it be? ...(Don't answer that.)
Thanks to everyone who told me where to shop in Detroit, Chicago, and Toronto,
especially Robbie and Val, who helped make a lovely vacation fantastic! :)
To Jon, with the tons of questions: Check our my little old web page for 2 out
of the 4 or 5 questions you wanted answered...Japanese SFTD and Fannie Packs,
I believe...[plug, plug, plug]

the the BFF song on the Garden Place benefit album will not be by BFF

Also on SonicNet, I read that the BFF track on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch
album will be "Kate"

hi all...this here above line is quoted from Ben Folds' response to
armchairers' questions, from a few years ago, before the release of WEAEA. I
got it off one of the archives. Just wondering : WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED TO
THESE TRACKS??? Vibraphones? Timpani? was this a ...(gasp)...joke??? or
serious? And what about the other songs? Supposedly around 15 were recorded.
What about the others? Any old armchairers out there know what happened? I
myself wasn't on the list then...just wondering. hmm (sound of pondering in
the air). well, supposedly the next record's going to be a "big hairy deal"
as it was out on Modern rock Live...so I guess we'll see.

Subject: Various Bands
Hey Jenny, I'm responding to your request about learning about new bands. I
have a pretty diverse taste in music, and think I may be of some
assistance. I'm sure you'll get tons of these letters, so I'll try to keep
it brief (I said TRY). You appear to be pretty open-minded about music, and
that's good. I'll try to suggest things that sorta fit with the other bands
you listed, and maybe an album.
OK,
1. Blur - you may have heard Song 2, the WOO-HOO song, but they are alot
more than that. Try The Great Escape, my favorite album of theirs.
2. They Might Be Giants - cos they are nuts, but also great musicians
3. Belly, or Tanya Donnelly's solo album.
4. Matthew Sweet - fun, pure pop sort of like Ben Folds Five
5. Reel Big Fish - them and Goldfinger did a 7" together. Reel fun
ska-punk.
6. Supergrass - a cool British band
7. Pulp - another cool British band, not easy listening though. They have
really complex songs, ala Radiohead.
8. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - crazy thrash punk/blues, but that doesn't
really do it justice. Try their album, Orange. Riot enciting music.
9. Amazing Royal Crowns - rockabilly punk. Just too damn cool.
10. BR5-49 - rockin honky-tonk, lots of fun.
Thats enough for now. Good luck in your search for cool music, it's not
easy to find good stuff in this MTV world.

I know where you can get REALLY BIG posters!! send an e-mail to
sales@pushposters.demon.co.uk
and ask how to buy the
BEN FOLDS FIVE Whatever & ever amen individual band pics col 150x100cm
6.99
It^Òs really huge, takes up practically my whole wall, and my walls
aren^Òt that small. It^Òs the promo poster I guess, with the orange pics
from WAEA on the WAEA background, and I guess it^Òs pretty old cause it
says their single BOWCCL instead of Brick...
They also sell
BEN FOLDS FIVE Brick pic of a brick wall col 70x50cm 3.49
which is just the brick single promo poster.
They send them really quickly, within a few days. I guess in England
they^Òre cheap but it cost me a fair bit because of the exchange rate and
all.
Also, any people who are interested in trading for the Australian SFTD
single can e-mail me and we^Òll work something out. I^Òll buy it for you
and send it to you. But I^Òll only do it for trades because I can^Òt be
bothered buying it for people and stuffing around with the exchange rate
and all.

Subject: birthdays
I was on someone^Òs web page the other day and I found out Ben, Darren
and Robert^Òs birthdays. And yesterday I got bored and I thought, I
wonder what they mean. We have this huge book of meanings behind
birthdays and stuff. I don^Òt really believe in it, but it^Òs amusing. And
it has quotes that are supposed to suit the person, and strengths and
weaknesses and stuff. So here^Òs what they said-
Ben (12th September) - the day of the fearless crusader - "the channels
between inner and outer worlds can remain open" it said that september
12th strengths were that they were "honorable, witty and fearless", and
their weaknesses wre that they were "dry, cynical and closed".
Darren (8th April) - the day of conscience - "I am a human being from
the planet Earth" - it said that 8th April people were "ethical, giving
and socially responsible", and weaknesses were that they were
"self-sacrificing, extreme and emotionally closed".
Robert (9th March) - the day of nonconformity - "the power is there - we
only have to plug into it" - stengths were that they are "individual,
magnetic and intuitive" and weaknesses were that they were "isolated,
emotionally difficult and upsetting".
I laughed at it anyway.
And sorry about the 2 posts.
