Wow, I didn't even notice that they had three moon men up there. Anyone notice the
weird thing they did with Ben's voice when they were showing the nominees? Ya know,
where they had it on skip so it kept on going "off, off, off, off, off...."

> I really wanted the guys to take that award home, and they truly did deserve it,
> so guys
> congratulations on being nominated and we all know u earned.

Yeah, they did--but they don't need to win a stupid award anyway. We know, and I'm
sure they that know they're just as talented without it. Well, that's good 'ol MTV
for ya....they just don't know what's good for 'em.

> Plus, I don't know if anyone caught this, on the Post SHow, when Kurt Loder
> was talking to Green Day, they said something like, " We thought we might get
> the Video Vanguard Award, but when we saw the 3 moon men, we knew Ben Folds
> Five had it!!!" All I did was laugh... Funny that they were mentioned.. Other
> bands do acknowledge them, somewhat...

I think they were being *very* sarcastic about it, though. Did you see how they
immediately started snickering after they said that? How rude.

Loved the bit about Matt Pinfield (which was the single most accurate impressions
I've seen done of him so far) & the Backstreet BoyZ.

I hear that Fear Of Pop won't be out anytime in September. =( I believe the release
date has been moved to October now.

Oh, and....happy birthday, Ben! =)

know that this is pretty stupid for me to get excited over, but too bad.

HAPPY FRIGGIN' BIRTHDAY MR. FOLDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, I know it's cheesy and I know it's childish, but hey - I'm a teenager
and I'm allowed to do this. Yes I sent Ben a card. Yes I want to celebrate
his birthday. And yes, Ben Rocks my world.

But seriously, Ben has made my life just that little bit better. For me it's
all about the music, and that's what the Foldster is all about too. Not only
am I eternally grateful for his inspiration on the piano, the bass, the
guitar, the drums, and of course, in his amazing voice, but I truly appreciate
that wise-ass "you're actually taking me seriously?" sense of humor. Ben,
you're a master of mayhem and media manipulation (ie., "we met in a gay bar.")

Thank you Ben Folds for four years of bitchin' harmonies and a lifetime of
greatness.

Ben poured his heart out, and damn does it sound good!

hey I thought y'all might find it amusing that mr geoff harvey was on
australia's 'this is your life' the other night (and what a crap show
that is)
no mention of bff btw

but I was in the staffroom at pracschool and the other teachers were
talking about it and saying what a legend harvey is, and i'm going
'what!!- you're kidding me!'

so I explain how harvey acted when bff played on the show, and they are
totally like, harvey did the right thing, you should treat a piano with
respect - and I'm like have you not heard of rock?!

(and these aren't ancient conservative teachers either - they're pretty
okay people- but it now seems they are really out of it in this respect)

One of them said: I don't like it when pianists press the keys really
hard or put stuff inside the piano, and I'm thinking, I love ben's
playing FOR these reasons- coz he doesn't treat the piano like it made
of crystal, coz he treats it like a drum! coz he has FUN with it!
FUN!

(if this is what happens when you become a teacher, may i never gain my
diploma!)

sorry I needed to get that out (none of my friends understand etc.)

anyway, it seems harvey is a bit of a legend for the older generation,
and quite a piano player himself
well I found that quite interesting stuff to learn - blew my mind.

new topic: nonbentent (bite me)
livid!! - if you're going, email me. let's all meet up at some point on
the day and complain about the line up this year, and how if you're over
18, it sucks to have to vote that day.

new topic:uncle walter is truly a classic video, damn but it's funny, I
could watch it over and over and rover...

last topic: I finally got me hands on sessions, at the party tonight,
and I can't wait to watch it. those of you who emailed me earlier about
it, you can send now. the guy reckons there's a minute missing at the
start, so that's a bummer, but it's better than nothing.

whoever (jon?) posted that endquote from darren talking about the
alternate way bff may have started up- that is the funniest thing I have
read in ages! thanks! not to mention: 'then his hand went down my back a
little...' mmm yeh

cheers

AHHHHH! i'm SO unbelievably happy!!! yay!!! so does anyone have a prediction
of what this stuff's gonna be like? is it just him or is it like some other
guys with him (please no!!!) >>

I can't wait to hear it too...things have been so hectic moving back to school
that I didn't even realize it was coming so soon (if Sep. 15 is the correct
date). From what I heard, the album will be a little different. Apparently
some of the tracks will have a bit of an "electronic" feel to them. Also, the
album will be mostly instrumental. However, William Shatner (yes, from Star
Trek) will make an appearance on one or more tracks. Hope this helps, and I
hope it all hasn't been mentioned before...I think I heard it on MTV news
about a month ago.

Now, for my request...(and I hope I won't get flamed for this...): I know
there is a lot of BFF fans who are also DMB fans. A friend's birthday is
coming up and I am desperately looking for a good quality bootleg of the
6/7/98 Giants Stadium show for her (the one that BFF opened, so this is kind
of BFF-related). I thought I had one, but the quality was pretty bad, and I
plan to copy it to a CD, so I really need a good one. I have plenty of BFF
shows to trade, as well as blank Maxell's and CDR's, and I have no problem
trading in your favor if I can get the tape quickly. Please help a fellow BFF
fan out!

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I was recently flipping channels
when I came upon VH1... woohoo... well anyway, They were doing Ska Night or
something and it was a Squirrel Nut Zipper's song... I don't recall the name
of the song though, sorry.... and what happens in the video is basically the
wait staff and some of the other guests in this restaurant captured the band
under this cage while they were fattening up on dessert. Luckily a cute monkey
was able to save them by pulling the lever to lift up the cage and the
Squirrels ran out, then the song ended. But as soon as they left the screen
BEN showed up and said, "Can we be seated now?" Or something to that effect,
and the wait staff and guests looked hungrily at him with an evil gleam in
their eye and the video was over. It was just a pleasant surprise to a very
interesting video. :)

Just talked to someone at sony who said Fear of Pop will be out on 550 toward
the end of next month. It's an understatement to say no one over there seems
particularly interested in the project.
otherwise, it's nice to see that ben's back in the country. anyone heard
anything more about when they're going back home, or back in the studio?

I hate those people who complain on this thing, but I am very upset. Did the
people who said how they felt about how BF5 did at the music awards ever think
that someone might not have seen it yet and wanted to find out how they did by
watching?
Plus I have a Question. Does anyone know for sure when Fear Of Pop is coming
out? If so, please email me privately at Snlpiscopo@aol.com to tell me.

Noooooo! Not the truck! No no no no no! Shouldn't it go in the Rock 'n' Roll
Museum Hall of Fame or something? Some cheesy museum in Las Vegas? Part of
Graceland? Anything but some snobby rich guy's living room...Please oh please
let them donate the truck or the proceeds from selling the truck to charity or
something.

Argggggg.....this sucks.

The following appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday Magazine this
week...

Cornering cool
Old navy is IT for finicky teens--and their harried parents.

By Dianna Marder
Diana Marder is an Inquirer staff writer.

``Well, if you've come to this page you must want to know about me. So,
here goes!

``My name is Ginger. . . . My birthday is Dec. 4 which makes me a
Sagittarius. . . . I enjoy sports, movies, music, reading, playing the
piano, going dancing, shopping and hanging out with my friends. I guess you
could say I'm typical. . . . When I go shopping I usually end up at Old
Navy, because I absolutely love their clothes (and prices.)''

That, friends, is not the text of an Old Navy advertisement.

It's a slice from the Web Page of a young woman named Ginger, a student
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who is also addicted to
Snapple iced tea. She's an only child who lives with her mom and stepdad,
and visits with her dad and stepmom, so I guess you could say she's typical.

The worst day in Ginger's life was in November 1997 when her fat orange
furball of a cat named AC died. And in case you're wondering what kind of
guy Ginger likes, she's included a link to a page titled, ``SomeOne I Think
Is Really Cute,'' containing snapshots of Robert Sledge, the bassist for her
favorite band, the Ben Folds Five.

For Ginger, Robert Sledge is the epitome of it.

For Old Navy, Ginger epitomizes it as well.

Ginger is just what those clever entrepreneurs at The Gap Inc. had in
mind back in 1994 when they launched the Old Navy Clothing Co. division - a
line of value-priced clothes that work, amazingly, for the whole family -
including picky teens and their harried parents.......

....etc....etc....

Is this the same Ginger that's on the Armchair?!?! Does she know about
this?

The article can be found at www.phillynews.com/sunmag.

(Ginger, drop me your address if you want me to mail the article to you.)

Oh, and the review for Bette Midler's new album Bathhouse Betty in
Entertainment w
Weekly....
"blah blah blah....One gem shines through: the mordant Ben Folds ballad
"Boxing."

Hey, there was about a second of Ben on the Video Music Awards Edition
of House Of Style! He was showing his boxers to everyone. :) I didn't
catch what he said because I was in mild shock, going "HEY! That's
Ben!" :) But knowing MTV, they're repeat the show a million times,
so....

Oh, and when someone posted about Ben being in Playboy for best
instrumental, when I first looked @ it, I thought it said "best
instrument," and of course, knowing playboy, that would totally change
the meaning of the sentence!

Yeah, and Friday I had SC&C in my head, and I couldn't help but sing
"easy to beeeeeeeeeeee.easy and freeeeeeee" over and over; everyone kept
asking me what I was singing. :) and of course i had to enlighten
them....
