Well I promise you...everyone here who plans on getting on running to the

it's not going to be out. Actually....as of a few hours ago...THERE IS NO
OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE. I just spoke to their PR folk and all they know is
that'll be sometime in early October. I just read the press release and it's

So, I'm sitting in my study hall this afternoon at school and I have nothing
to do, and besides sleeping on my desk and probably falling out of my chair, I
grabbed the paper from the teachers desk and started reading it.. Ho hum. Ho
hum. Read about an old lady in a retirement house having a fake wedding..
Cute, I suppose.. Saw something about Charles Atlas.. Member him?? The
"perfect man," I think.. BUT the only thing that was interesting, was tonites
tv guide.. They had a bit about each show on tonite that was worth mentioning,
and IT SAID.... Conan O'Brien, Monday nite, was a repeat with BEN FOLDS FIVE
as the music guest.. SO, watch it again and relive the past... Or, if you
haven't seen it yet, I totally reccommend you seeing it and seeing one of the
best renditions of SFTD to date!!!!

Subject: Re: Gershwin in BFF?
Gershwin is used in BFF. In Ben's solo, he often plays excerpts of
Gershwin's masterpiece "Rhapsody in Blue". You can find examples on
both WAEA and the self titled album. It's kind of ironic considering
that the song is so heavy it almost approaches metal, while Gershwin's
Rhapsody is classical. However, it is pretty heavy. The first time
that Gershwin played it in concert, he pounded the keys so hard that his
fingers bled.

Subject: Video awards are for the popular songs.
Well, as my subject says, video awards are given out to popular songs, not
the best videos or the best music, just what people like. If it was all about
good videos a bunch of highly original unknown bands would be up for awards,
not Madonna. I mean really the boys have done some really good videos in the
past and never even mentioned, as have a lot of bands, so you can say the
video wasn't that good, or that it was great, but we all know they are just
giving it out to who ever the people like the most.

Regarding Monica who wrote on Armchair #1209:
I wasn't at the Hollywood Sean Lennon show, but was at the Seattle Sean
Lennon show where Whiskey Town and Squirrel Nut Zippers also played
(where was Ben???).
I know Ben must have been curious since he grew up a major Beatles fan.
Sean shocked the Seattle audience when he walked on stage, the spitting
image of his dad. He had his dad's shirt, glasses, and had died his hair blond.
Unfortunately, he's very shy with his creativity. He hasn't found himself,
yet...
However, Yuka Hoda, Sean's keyboard player fabricated some interesting
techniques with sound and vibration. Maybe Ben will experiment with
synthesizers?...hmm...

Hi Armchairers
In response to whoever it was (sorry, bad short term memory) that
wondered if Ben incorporated a little George Gerswin into the end of
Philosophy, the answer is definitely YES, and doesn't it ROCK!!
F.Y.I. the sample is from Rhapsody In Blue, which co-incidentally is one
of my favourite pieces of music outside the whole Ben Folds Five
arena....<sigh>...if only I could play it! Glad to be of help!

<Theoreticly, the awards SHOULD be given based on video, not song.>
I would have to add that there is more to videos than just moving pictures.
There are also sounds (in this case the music) that adds to the total
experience. I think it would be illogical for the people at MTV (or whoever
judge music video awards) to try to base the video on visuals alone.
Now, I can't add my personal opinion about the Green Day vid because I
haven't seen it. I haven't even paid any attention to what song it was
because I don't see MTV. But to say that the Brick video is better than the
song (assuming that is what you were talking about) is a little far fetched.
My own opinion is that the video was a little boring. It went really well
with the style of the song (no, I'm not saying the song was boring, just the
mellow mood) but I don't think it showed off too much artistic talent by any
of the staff involved.
What I do know is a lot of people in Australia obviously like the song (it's
played on all the commercial oldies/easy listening stations still after many
weeks). And if liking the song is any demonstration of the likability of
the video then it is doing well here.
Just my 2 1/2 cents worth.

Subject: getting to meet ben!
Hello,
just thought i'd share my little story from a couple of months ago...
i walked into a little restaurant here in nashville with my fiancee`
Ellen and my drummer Eric and i notice for a moment a guy who REALLY
looks like Ben Folds. I started staring and... gee, is that him? My
drummer looked at me and though he was not a fan at that time, he nodded
at me, knowing what i was thinking. We sat down at the table next to
theirs (i think he was with his wife and a friend) and we ordered. I
panicked because i had JUST taken all my CDs out of my car... all 3 of
my BF5 Cds included.
We waited until after he was finished eating and on his way out to
bother him. As he stood up, i said "Ben?" and it took what seemed like
forever for him to turn around and say yes. I got up, introduced myself,
and got his autograph on a napkin. We talked a bit about this guy i know
who wants Ben to be on his girlfriend's tribute album. My songwriting
idol was standing here and i was bantering some nonsense about this guy
neither of us knows for real. But i suppose that's better than "you're
so great! selfless, cold and composed is the greatest song ever! i want
to be your guitarist!" and making an idiot out of myself.
He seemed a bit embarassed about "fans" as he signed our napkins with
signatures and smiley faces because his wife and friend were impatiently
waiting after paying for dinner. Agitated a bit, but he was still trying
to be nice and funny.
Hopefully i'll get to meet him again so that i can really talk to him,
but i guess we all would like to ask him 20 questions and be his pal or
whatever.
Thanks!
Adam

Some people have been commenting on the fact that Brick lost at the VMA
because it was not the best directed video. Nobody cares how the video
was directed, including MTV. They picked Green Day because they are
overplayed on the radio and MTV. I'm glad Brick didn't win, they did
have the best song, but I don't want to hear BFF on the radio and I
don't want them to become so popular that everyone listens to them.
Maybe thats just me.

Subject: Alice Childress . . . The Movie
Me and my friend are planing on being big hollywood movie makers someday so
recently we've been brainstormin' for some ideas on movies that we could do.
Well, since we're huge BFF fans we both came up with converting a BFF song to
a movie, something I don't think has been done before (not just BFF I mean the
whole plot of a song.) So we came up with the plot of Alice Childress a new
girl comes into the big city with huge crime. And the main character tries to
convince her that life is worth living and that you have to have faith in
people, basically the plot of the song. Of course we're gonna have the huge
seen where the main character gets mugged like in the song, but I was
wondering if any of you all have any ideas, we'd really appreciate it.
Also I'd like to sorry for my dumb post about Green Day being unappreciative I
was tired (it was like 4:00am or something) and I was angry. Like others have
pointed out it is the VIDEO music awards and it was just a dumb award show
they had a right to do whatever they wanted.
Well thanx for holding up through my giberish
"Give me my money back you bitch!" BFF

former lead singer of Farmer), Owsley, Lackey, Noel Hartough, Blake Morgan,
Mr. Henry (who is one of my personal favs), Bicycle, Ben Swift Band, Rustic
Overtones, and the Greyboy Allstars. There are two live tracks on the
album by the Greyboy Allstars and the Rustic Overtones, which just rock!
Aware Records has helped break artists like Everything, Jackopierce,
Hootie, Edwin McCain, Athenaeum, Train, Matchbox 20, Sister 7, Better than
