That's interesting. I thought it was just me. I have sent TWO e-mails to the
address listed on the "The Beginnings" website, but have gotten NO response.
I would really like to buy it, but I have no idea where to send my check nor
who to write it out to. And the way things have been going, I'm not sure I'm
confident that I would ever actually see the CD.
Has anyone else had this problem besides me and Eric?
Your Pal,
Chris Mal

I emailed the link on the benfoldsfive.org webpage for the guy's email address
(jhauer@benfoldsfive.org I believe) and he hasn't responded after 3 emails. I
want to buy the beginnings cd from him, and asked for his address and who to
make out the $10 check to but he hasn't responded. JHauer - If you're reading
this, please respond to Jaffman1@aol.com. If anyone has any info like if he's
on vacation or something, please let me know.
Thanks a lot.

To make a differentiation, selling bootlegs and mp3 CD's: illegal.
Selling CD's you bought at a store yourself: perfectly legal. As in Brian's
'arrive alive' CD, or the CD of the BFF demo tapes he bought at a music
store. As long as you're not the one who makes the tape or CD, and you don't
know for sure it's illegal, you're within the law.

Hi, all. I keep reading that people are looking for a way to get The
Beginnings. May I add myself to that list of people? I too have
emailed the given address without response. What's the deal? Can
ANYONE help those of us who are desparately in search of The Beginnings?
If you have ANY info whatsoever regarding why this guy isn't responding
to our requests for a CD, please e-mail me privately. Put it on the
list too, 'cuz quite a few people are wondering, but I'd totally
appreciate a little personal enlightenment on the subject.
Thanks.

hola mi friends,
i am extremely sorry to hear about all the illegal actions
that BFF fans have been comitting.please do not buy bootleg CD's
espiecaly when they are $50 come on that is radicoulus. i do have
Domo!which i tape traded with someone and its not that great
except for Kane o Kaese(SFTD in Japanese)so please
as Phish and DMB have told you don't buy CD-R's, trade them, trade tapes
but please don't ruin it for everybody else,if you are going to get CD-R's
find someone with a burner and give them some money for some blank cd's
and let them do it,but dont ruin it for all your fellow armchairer's.
also this whole MP3 thing is a loud of crap.fans should be allowed to hear
the music they love on the internet.even if you record them onto a cd i dont
care
just dont sell.
another note i did send a question to the boys and mine went through(sorry)
i asked if there were going to be any special guests on the new record and if
they could name it "getting comfortable in the back of a pickup truck"

I just don't get it. You have absolutely no case against "the beggings" at
all. None whatsoever. First, he is not making any profit. He's selling a
double CD for $10, shipping included. There is no profit to be made for
him. Second, your assumption that he is marketing it as an official release
is completely false, as you probably have never even been to his web site
and read about it. He admits that it is not an official release and is in
fact a bootleg. Third, he is not necessarily only selling it. Now, once
again if you had actually gone to the web page you would have notice that he
does, in fact, so that he is open to trades. This fact speaks volumes and
undermines all of your arguments against him. This says that he is willing
to give it away for free, which is what you are saying that he should do.
It also reinforces that the 10 dollars is only to cover the costs to him.
And just another little 'fact' for you, the beggings is not a show, but
there earlier 'demos', get your facts straight. You really ought to
research something before you go attacking something that you obviously no
little to nothing about. Actually, I guess I'm assuming you are referring
to the beggings. I may be wrong, but I saw the $10 thing and put two and
two together. I guess my point is that the beginnings does not apply

Oh wow, I guess I should bow before the gods of tape trading. Wow, you
really made me feel bad about my inferior tape trading abilities. Hopefully
with time I can be a "real" tape trader like you.
>You guys don't seem to understand that you don't HAVE to pay $25 and up for

And all this time I thought I had to buy a cdr, thanks for clearing that
up.... Your forgetting the jewel case and the paper and ink and the other
Cdr.. So I guess the 45 cents of profit that he makes means he's an
exploiter just like the rest of them....
>The bad thing about these bootlegs you find in the store is that they are,

I would actually be pretty flattered if someone would pay money for a poem
that I wrote. But seriously, if he was only charging for the price of the
paper, then I would have no problem with it. This entire argument relies on
the fact that a profit is being made off of the beggings, which is false.

So I guess that CD that I have with that passenger label on it is a fake
then....

How can you make money off of spending thousands of dollars?

exploitation?

Why does this bother you so much? If you don't like it, then ignore it, but
you don't need to preach to us. I'm sure we all know what bootlegs are.

Subject: bootlegs, buy 'em up, baby
One of the dudes pleading with people not to buy bootlegs said, "A fan
is someone who loves a band." That's bullshit. I would guess that
BFF wouldn't have many fans if they were just the three guys with no
albums out. I don't know about others, but I'm a fan of their music,
much more so than I am the actual people. I mean, come on, despite
the various websites that list their middle names and shoe sizes, not
many of us actually know the guys well enough to say we're a fan of
the people. And since I'm a fan of BFF music, like so many out there,
it would be easy to see why I would want to buy a collection of music
that someone has conveniently already put together. And like someone
already pointed out, there's not going to be mass amounts of people
who buy these bootlegs INSTEAD of the released albums, nor is anyone
going to say,"Why go to the concert, I'll just wait and buy the
bootleg," meaning it's really not hurting the band's revenue.

sample of a live BFF concert where Ben is saying "Robert Sledge on bass =
guitar" as i have a boot where he does this and it sounds almost =
identical, plus i know that in 1997 Ben liked to introduce the song =
Fair, by saying it features Robert Sledge on bass guitar. I think the =
song originated from a band in-joke where they commented that when Ben =

Subject: Questions for BFF
Hi all -
I had the same problem that Erin did at the BFF website. I think I tried
to submit my information (yes, it was completely filled out) about 10
times before I gave up as it kept telling me to go back and submit all of
the required info. So frustrating.
Has anyone actually submitted a question for the band? Can anyone help me
out and tell me what I need to do differently to submit a question? Just
a plea from a desperate fan (who is at work and listening to a newly
required copy of "Shut Up and Listen to Majosha" that I just got thru a
trade)!
