i assume you mean "Your Redneck Past"

please cook my steak again
"please cook my steak again" (i suppose maybe that was in english ;)

désolé
je suis american

je ne parle pas français
 "I do not speak French"

> I like to speak french to myself"

i know no french, this is just what i got from an online translator. it seems
to make sense, except for maybe "afflicted," but of course, if "je ne parle pas
français" is true, he probably didn't know what he was saying in the first
place. =)

that isn't quite right. He is actually saying...

"I am sorry
I am American
Please cook my steak again
I don't speak French"

Hope that Helps...

Here's what I can show from 5 years of French and 6 weeks in the stinking
country. This translates to:

"Sorry
I'm an american
Please cook my steak again
Sorry.
I don't speak french."

Your friend must have heard the last verse wrong, since he translated it as
"je ME parle pas francais," which would literally translate to "I don't
speak french to myself" (since in spoken French, the "ne" of "ne ... pas"
is generally ignored and the "me" would work as the reflexive pronoun ...
it would, however, be a very strange sentence).

And, FWIW, the French is in "Your Redneck Past" and not Regrets ... anyhoo

hey kids,
my friend benito, who is multilingual told me that this is the translation of
the french lines in redneck past:

desole je suis american=Sorry, I am American.
desole je ne parle pas francais=Sorry, I don't speak french.

he's pretty smart, and french is his major, so i'd assume he's right and it
has nothing to do with being unhappy or speaking french to yourself. sorry,
great boobah.

bye for now, kids,

Hey,

Few things to say -
(Numbered! For your convenience!)

#1. Rant about e-bay -

A few days ago, I was at e-bay checking out their BFF auctions. I saw an
audio cassette of BFF at Irving Plaza. An AUDIO cassette. Do you know how
much it was going for ??? 17.00! Seventeen dollars! an AUDIO tape! I would
like to say right now - to anybody who was a big idiot and bid on it - You
are a loser. And the person selling it (thirdska@aol.com) was an even bigger
loser. Seventeen dollars! I wrote & complained to ebay and then wrote to BFF
management about it. I think the auction was suspended. In closing, don't put
bootleg cassettes of BFF up on e-bay. Or bootlegged cds .. how about - Just
don't sell them at all. Cause its illegal.

#2. New Site

I have a new tape trading site up - the "redirect" url is:
http://listen.to/bff_live ... how catchy. The real url is:
http://members.tripod.com/XdaphneanX/index.html

#3. Trading Requests

I want some pictures of bff - if anyone has some that they're willing to
trade, e-mail me.

#4. New Shows.

New tapes I have in: 4/17/99 - Amherst; 4/24/99 - PSU; 4/25/99 - URI; 5/1/99
- - Tufts..

Coming soon: Irving Plaza, TLA..

Is anyone organizing a get together thing for the atlanta show or the
nashville show?

Join the BFF Bootleg mailing list - see the link @ http://listen.to/bff_live

geez, this was long.

Subject: BFF - The phrase that Pays

I went to see the band Switchfoot last night in Newport. They were
just the support act for Delirious but they were really, really good.
Their a 3 piece band with a good sound and intelligent lyrics. If you
want to hear them check them out on my site.

I was talking to them after the gig and the singer commented
on my unofficial BFF t-shirt. I got it after the gig at Wolverhampton.

>From: "emily burningham" <em_pet@hotmail.com>
>oo who was it said they went to the wolverhampton gig? my mate lee's
>from there, and was stunned that there was someone else who knew who
>they were.
Yes it was me. It was really cool to be in a gig where everyone
seemed to know and love BFF.

Anyway, he said it was really cool and wanted to know if I'd sell it
to him. He also asked me what the new album is like. I also saw a
friend of mine at uni who saw my t-shirt and said "oh they did that
Air song. I really like that." Hopefully I've managed to convert 2
more people to the world of BFF! I guess the morale of this story is
never be without your BFF t-shirt.

Del.

P.S Anyone from the UK watch the Adam & Joe show? Everytime I see a
trailer for the Phantom Menace and hear Yoda speak I think of their
impression and crack up. "mmmm. Shafted are you"

Uhhhh, no, not exactly.....it's more along the lines of:
I'm sorry
I am American
Please cook my steak again
I am American
I cannot speak French

Oh god. Hell no, your friend's all wrong. There we go for the translation.

Désolé, je suis Américain = Sorry, I am American
Please cook my steak again = Please cook my steak again
Je suis Américain = I am American
Désolé, je ne parle pas Français = Sorry, I don't speak French.

And while we're talking about that, these French lyrics are mistyped on the
Official Site. Ha, what a bunch of asses ;)
Happy I could help,

Guillaume, aka the french BFF fan ;p

Actually, it is:

"Sorry..
I am American
Please cook my steak again
I am American
Sorry
I don't speak french."

:)

Subject: The selling of bootleg recordings

Recently, some invididuals have decided to sell audience bootleg
recordings of Ben Folds Five shows on on-line auction services
(specifically Ebay).

Anyone who knows the band's generous taping policy realizes that this is
against that policy. The band allows taping of shows only for private
listening or trading among friends. Sale of these recordings is
prohibited.

If this situation persists, it may mean the end of the band's allowing
fans to tape shows. It would be a big disappointment if the actions of a
few caused the end of this generous practice for the many tapers among the
band's fans.

I don't think that's right at all...at least not with what I can remember from
three years of high school French. Here's my own translation:

Sorry
I am American
Please cook my steak again
I am American
Sorry
I don't speak French.
