Helllllloooo!!!!!!! I went to BFF's concert at the Ritz in Raleigh last
night! Was anyone else there?? It was sososo incredible--it was my first time
seeing them and ohmygod I want to see them again...argh...i wanna drive down
to Charlotte right now and go see them at the Concert for Kosovo. :( AND!!!
my friends and I staked out a place behind the building after the show (which
kicked some big booty :)....the whole club was filled to capacity and we were
all singing along and I stole this cool poster of them, it's the cover of
TUBORM and you know the picture on the inside of the cd? well, it's on the
back of the poster too...reversible! and i bought a cool little shirt that
says: Ben Folds Five..and the "I" in Five is the dude Messner) Ok, so, we
waited and waited for about 20 minutes for the band to come out (the opening
act was Jude, who I now severely hate :( he sucks--i almost fell asleep
during his set).....and this roadie man told us where he was coming out of
(Ben) and so we finally saw him coming out and going to his car with some
woman (couldn't figure out who it was tho) and it was only 4 of us at first
and I was like: YOUR SHOW WAS AWESOME TONIGHT!!!! and he was sosososos nice
and we chatted a little bit, he signed my ticket and then all these people,
well, about 20 came over and some got him to sign their yearbooks and stuff
and then my friends and I got our pictures taken with him! SIGH! he was
wearing his little glasses and cute shoes... I heard them on NPR's Fresh Air
tonight too--I ended up driving all over town so I could stay in the car and
listen to his wonderful voice :).....
Would anyone happen to know if they tour Asia??? Because I"m moving
to Korea in June and I'm so pissed off about not being able to like, buy
their stuff over and stuff :(......

Subject: This week in Anthem
Dear friends of Anthem,
It's Ben Folds Five week at Anthem. Our guests in studio four A came here
last month and recorded an interview with Rick Karr. I was our this week
attending to a number of administrative matters...so I'm going to turn you
over to someone who knows more about the session than I do, but first, let
me tell you about our "American subcultures "series.
Anthem has embarked upon a series of features from independent producers
around the country about American subcultures. The premise is this: we as
Americans don't identify ourselves ONLY as members of churches, or schools,
or corporate employees. We are also members of subcultures: Deadheads,
swing dancers, Civil War re-enactors, model railroaders. You get the idea.
We've asked producers to tell us about subcultures where they are. This
week, producer Dmae Roberts takes us to a Star Trek convention tells us that
she has been a closet "trekkie" all her life and FINALLY got up the nerve to
show herself in public. Odd coincidence that we air this piece just as a
documentary about trekkies opens around the country. But that's just luck,
really. In coming weeks we'll hear from a number of producers with their
subculture pieces. We're excited about the series and think it offers a
cool way to look at American culture - through the eyes of the most
passionate.
Now, as I promised, Kelly Corcoran, our editorial assistant, who is just
freshly graduated from the University of Kansas, where he was the program
director and music director of public radio station KJHK, to tell you a bit
more about this week's show...
Hello. As Neenah indicated, The Ben Folds Five is this weeks musical guest.
For the unfamiliar, singer/songwriter/piano and veritable band leader, Ben
Folds pounds out Billy Joel-esque pop songs backed up by a drummer, bass
guitar player, and on the song 'Army,' a North Carolina stronghold of brass,
featuring a few of the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
Ben Folds is from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and we decided to delve
deeper into the tobacco road psyche by visiting the Research Triangle
(Chapel Hill-Durham-Raleigh area) music scene through local Ross Grady.
Ross is the host of a local music program on Duke's college station WXDU
called 'Live at the 'XDU Lounge.' Ross guides us through a brief history of
the scene nurtured by 3 college towns, and brings in music from 5 newer
releases from Triangle area musicians. Check out our website at
http://www.npr.org/programs/anthem for more information on the records Ross
picked out.
Co-Host Rick Karr is in his childhood home of Chicago this weekend,
preparing for a session with Jon Langford and the Waco Brothers at King Size
Studios next week. While Rick was there he investigated the gentrification
of his old neighborhood, Wicker Park, and the historical artists hive Tree
Studios, which is under the recent threat of destruction.
We've got a Session next week from songwriter Randy Newman, recorded in his
own home in Los Angeles. Looking to the near future: sessions from
Alejandro Escovedo and Steve Lacy already recorded, and plans to record with
Harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite and country act Lambchop.
Take care all,
- -Kelly Corcoran

Hi all!
I might be showing my newbie colors with this question, but I am quite
curious - and I didn't see the answer in the FAQ.
Anyway, has anyone in the band ever mentioned why so many of their
songs use people's names in titles? I mean, it's obviously about each
person or character - but just why in general they write so many songs
focusing on a particular person, it seems rather unusual to me.

I could've sworn I saw someone post that the boys were coming to Des
Moines. Now I nearly crapped my pants when I heard that, but I looked at
the official site, and the tour date isn't listed. So I have to ask, is
the band coming to Des Moines, and if so, when? I MUST go to this
concert... :P

I know it's on a CD. I think someone mentioned it in a previos armchair, but
I don't remember what it's called. if anyone knows, can you e-mail me and
tell me what the CD is called? And how hard is it to find? I'd like to check

the votes of people on this list, we should maybe have a chance. And if this
isn't posted before Monday, Vote on Wednesday, June 2nd. tell all of your
friends, too, to get some more votes. alright, thanks.

Regarding the Central Park Summerstage show, it's Thursday, June 24 at 7 with
opener Jude (which is a wonderful, great singer!) and tix are $25. Shows are
usually free but this is a benefit concert for the summerstage. Contrary to
the summerstage hotline, YOU CANNOT GET TIX AT IRVING PLAZA BOX OFFICE!
Unless the guy at Irving is totally stupid or uninformed but I went there and
he said they didn't sell them there. Anyhow, I'll be there!!! (Hopefully as I
didn't buy my ticket yet since I hate ticketmaster!)

<<<Okay...I'm going to bitch, so if any of you have problems with that scroll
past my message. You have been warned.
Commence bitching: I perfectly understand why BFF will end the tour June 24th
with Ben's kids on the way. No problem with that. Your kids are only born
once. But...they missed out on a lot of huge cities (LIKE DETROIT!) and are
playing Chicago AGAIN! Now, I cannot begin to describe how incredibly
disappointed I am they are passing us up. And then the poor folks in Seattle
who had their show canceled only for Chicago to get another go... well,
that's just not fair. Or should I say, "All is not fair, in tour schedules."
~Feeling awfully ripped off in Michigan,
Dan>>
I agree that it's not fair, but you know that if you lived in Chicago you
wouldn't have any problem with them canceling seattle and doubling up shows
in chicago. You'd just be like YEAH BABY I GET TO SEE THEM TWICE! SWEET!
You know it's true, just shut up and accept it.
i love you goodbye

hey, I just wanted to offer the piano part to "don't change your plans," I
wrote it up a few nights ago in finale, I can send it as a .mid file for
anyone that has music software, it should come out perfectly good sheet
music (in theory). if you want it, write me privately.
1) What BFF song(s) do you as an individual do you find most personal?
huh. "Don't change your plans" hit me so hard when I first heard it that I
HAD to learn it for myself... there's this gal I met a few months ago in
Washington while I was in school. we became so close so fast, I know that
"I loved her before I met her." since I'm transfering to another school in
boston this fall, I surely "met her just in time." I know that Boston is
the best place for me ("the leaves are falling back east" "I've gotta be
where my heart says I've gotta be") but it is really tempting to stay in
washington because of her ("you're the reason I wanna stay") Now we're
thousands of miles apart, and I'm just praying to god that I'll see her
again "on the other side." there's my sad story. chris
