Introduction for New Subscribers to The Magical Armchair
PLEASE SAVE THIS MESSAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
Welcome to THE MAGICAL ARMCHAIR, the Ben Folds Five Digest mailing
list!
This is a loosely-moderated discussion group revolving around Ben Folds
Five, the Chapel Hill, N.C. trio that's been drawing acclaim from
virtually all who hear them. I'm glad you're joining in on the
conversation!
Please note that this is an e-mail mailing list, not a postal mailing
list, and has no "official" connection with the band. If you would like
to correspond directly with the band, look on the web page or the CD
booklet for their postal and e-mail addresses.
This mailing list is managed by MAJORDOMO, an automated mailing list
server. All posts to the Armchair should be addressed to:
armchair@maillist.il.fontys.nl
DO NOT send administrative requests to this address. See above for
information on how to unsubscribe. To change your address, first
unsubscribe from your old account, then subscribe from your new account.
If you are having trouble with the unsubscribe mechanism, do not post a
complaint to the list itself. Instead, send a message to
owner-armchair@maillist.il.fontys.nl describing your problem and I will
try to help you.
Here are some things to keep in mind when posting messages to the Magical
Armchair:
- Change the subject of your reply to something pertaining to your
message (not "Magical Armchair Digest, Volume X, Issue #nnn").
- Keep your posts short. Remember, you are writing to over a thousand
people. Long posts tend to ramble.
- DON'T quote excessively, OR QUOTE THE ENTIRE DIGEST, when
replying. Edit your quote to only the line or lines you are
replying to. Remember, unlike Usenet, everyone's already seen the
original message.
- Format your post to lines of 72 characters or less. Do not use
non-English character sets (good old US-ASCII works best), and keep
your signature to four or five lines. Do not use mail attachments,
including HTML and binhex. Check to make sure your mail client
submits text only.
- Please keep non-Ben Folds Five content to a minimum. Members who
chronically post off-topic messages may be unsubscribed. This
includes chain letters, virus warnings, personal attacks on
listmembers or anyone else, etc. Also, refrain from
posting a message that basically says "me too" or answers a
question that has already been answered unless you have more
details. Messages of a moderating nature are off-topic; the moderator
will handle this behind the scenes.
- Do not post copyrighted material, including entire reviews or
articles from publications or postings from on-line services. You
may summarize an article and include one or two brief quotes or a
pointer to the article. This is to keep you, me and the listserver
owner from getting in trouble with the copyright laws.
- In keeping with the band's taping policy, which allows people to
tape shows for their own personal use, you may offer for trade
copies of shows which you have recorded or traded for. You may
not traffic in bootlegs for profit or offer them for sale.
- Even though we are talking about music which contains some
profanity, please keep in mind that there are minors subscribed to
the list. Keep your posts clean. Write as though your mother (or
your daughter) may be reading.
- Although not a requirement of membership, if you attend a show,
you may wish to post a review.
- Before posting questions of a general nature (e.g., "Anyone have
tour dates?" or "What are the words to Underground?"), check the
Web resources available.
- Personal replies to writers of messages that are not intended for
the entire listmembership should be sent to the individual and not
the list.
