Song included in “Download for Good” compilation

Filmmaker and philanthropist David Lynch, whose foundation helps introduce transcendental meditation to those suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome and other afflictions, has a new compilation Download for Good: Music that Changes the World exclusively on Apple’s iTunes Music Service. Among the thirty-three tracks offered for $11.99 is Ben’s rendition of Wild Mountain Thyme, Francis McPeake’s traditional Irish folk song (also known as Purple Heather or Will You Go, Lassie, Go?). While you can purchase just Ben’s track for 99 cents, the $11.99 album price gets you tracks by Folds collaborators and onetime opening acts Heather Nova, Ben Lee and Amanda Palmer, as well as songs by Peter Gabriel, Mary Hopkin, Donovan, Andy Summers, Slightly Stoopid, and many others. Plus, the cost goes toward a worthy cause. Here’s a story about the project on Spinner. We wrote about the David Lynch Foundation earlier this year.
